Depending on the day either the " bottom" it's easier. Or if I'm feeling silly I tear them in half. Try it sometime. Hold firmly but not tight on each side then pull with equal pressure. An aunt taught me. I thought she was the toughest woman on earth when I was little. :)

It never occurred to me to start anywhere but the stem end (unless I cut it in half, which I often do if I don't want a whole banana, and then I peel from the cut end). Who knew this was a debate? I will definitely try the non-stem end next time!
