If you the storage is only for a few select pieces and you don't want to hide the components then use invisible wall shelves below and to the side of the wall-mounted TV. I would use one for the TV below and then a couple for components like receivers, players and game consoles. Each component having it's own shelf.

Run an HDMI cable to the TV and place the equipment somewhere else in the room. Using an AV Receiver, connect all your cable box, DVD, AppleTV sources there and your TV installation stays clean and neat. You can add speakers or not, but by using the AV receiver to be the traffic director, only the TV is visible and everything else remains hidden.
