Pendant lighting placement

The island is 45x25. I feel like I'm dodging these lights when walking around or working on the island. Same issue by breakfast bar. They're also incredibly bright! To the point where I turn off the island lights. Are they placed correctly? Suggestions for toning down the brightness? Could use color! Toyed with taking the island out all together as its a small kitchen.
