I see what you are saying, what color scheme do you think would be good? a whiter look?

I would look to a travertine-look tile in the warm colours that would compliment the wood. The gray is not getting along very well with the orange/brown. Huge clash of colours here.

Do a search for travertin-look porcelain or tumbled limestone-look porcelain tiles...very nice, very light and still easy to work with.

I would get a cream tile, large format. Like Cancork said, there are beautiful travertine like tiles..Emser tile has some nice porcelain tile as well

what about a paver in the addition? It may not feel as nice obviously underfoot

We had uneven floor levels so we had a wood transition piece custom made by the flooring guy to help handle it. I don't have any info on the tile as we got it on CL of all places!
