Kitchen floor plan feedback

I drew this floorplan my self and would like to get some feedback whether this design is alright? Dimensions are included in the pic. Basically its a L shaped kitchen with a 2.5'x9' island, next to it is a dining area. Will this space feel packed? Any other ideas?

You are planning stools at an island in a traffic lane that is a mere 36 inches. And unless your fridge is pantry style, freezer on bottom, that side is tight as well. Not every kitchen is meant to have an island.

Therr is not enough room for seats at the island, and island to sink and island to table is a little tight. I would make your island 8' long.

The distance from fridge to sink is far. Another idea is to have sort of a galley kitchen with the fridge on the powder room wall.

What is the rectangle on the island? Where is the dishwasher? Is that an empty wall to the left of the island? The traffic areas do seem tight. You might consider reducing the width of the island to 2 feet wide and the length to 7 feet. You will still have a good prep area, but you will add to the traffic space, and with two people or kids in the kitchen, that's important. Stand in front of the refrigerator with the doors open fully, and measure the space you are using. Consider that measurement in your plans. The stools should be tucked away fully under the island when not in use. Might you consider a smaller rolling island, instead, which you can stow in the corner near the back door when not in use? You could put a full wall of shallow (12" deep) shelf storage on the wall which seems to be blank. All your dishes and glassware, plus salad bowls and many serving pieces can go in there, or you could use half of it for a pantry. As was noted by another Houzzer, not every kitchen is made for an island. Lastly, before you commit and purchase anything, use blue painter's tape to mark the placement of the island you think you need. Leave the tape down for a few days and don't walk across that area! Does it feel cramped? I put a desk up on piles of books for a week in one house to decide what size island would work there...and I did adjust my wants because it was just a bit too large. Instead, I put in a smaller island but added the full shallow wall cabinets..and never regretted it.

Firstly, thanks for the advices! Yes, the wall of the powder room is empty. The rectangle on the island is a sink. :) if i were to use a galley style kitchen (2' of cabinets on each side) there will be 7' between them. I just love how the kitchen look with pendents on top of the island. Cant have them in a galley kitchen.

I agree things may be too tight. a 9 foot island is large for a smaller room. I think you should take felizlady's advice, find a piece of furniture or 2 to put in that space temp just to really get the feeling of having to walk around it all the time. are you gaining more counter/storage space but making the room less functional? like her idea of the shallow pantry wall also, would work great if you move the refrigerator to the small notch in the wall of the bath with a small cabinet built in?

Actually, now that I realize thats a sink on the island, I think the appliance layout is great. Island is prep area and sink by windiws iscleanup area. Maybe push the prep sink to one side or the orher to allow a bigger countertop space.

damonlim03 that island you just posted is a great solution to things feeling cramped. make sure you use stools like those that visually disappear. looks like you could narrow the island to 2 feet and get that look with more walking area around it.

Do you have plumbing in the middle of the room for that island sink? Even if you decide to make the island narrower to allow more traffic space, you could put a small prep sink with disposal in the island. If you have others in the kitchen when cooking, I really think you need more traffic space, and the island as drawn is going to be a problem. Stand in front of all the appliances with doors fully extended and make sure you can have full access within your measurements.

Looks good to me. What is on the other side of the wall by the back door? Would it make sense to have a doorway there?

Its just an empty room/guest room/store room, i guess. Still have not thought of a function for that space. Any idea?

Home office, mud room/laundry room/pantry, hobby room... Unless it is a bedroom, I would open a doorway so the kitchen is not a dead end.

Consider a peninsula with pendants which you can make deep enough for seating on one side, storage on kitchen side and great workspace. There is an example of this type of layout in our Houzz portfolio pics.
Keep 42" at kitchen entry to keep it feeling open.

I think as long as you keep it narrow - about 27" wide with counter overhang, it could work. I've done as little as 36", but it depends on the person. Some people find it uncomfortable (like my big strapping carpenter), but other people are fine with it. Here are some good examples that incorporate storage and seating in a narrow island.
