Look back through prior posts as there has been a big discussion about Peach trees a few years ago.

2016 was a fantastic year for peach bloom in my south Mpls backyard. I have some seedlings from farther south, but they have been root and branch hardy and just now seem to be finally coming into enough maturity to bloom after some 4 years. Two different sources of the seedlings, and both bloomed well this spring. A word of warning: squirrels can develop a real love for the taste of ripe peaches! So a bit of protection might end up being called for.

A whole lot depends on spring frosts, and absolute winter lows. There seem to be some that are more or less adapted to zone 4 if the frosts don't hit hard and late. I would try Contender for a named variety, though, rather than Reliance. Supposedly to be better fruit quality. There have been a few advances in the past few years.

An aunt who passed away this spring had been growing peaches down in nw Iowa (also zone 4) for some years now. Late spring frosts are often the nemesis, but she has also had some heavy crops. This year the frosts didn't seem to be hard enough though. If half the flowers set on my bushes I will have a huge amount of thinning to do to get better than just plum sized!

I'm trying my hand at it the last two years. I planted Contender and so far it is doing well. Mo blossoms yet though.
