Post a pic of cabinets with countertops. Subway tiles come in many colors and finishes. One option, try to have continuous color from floor to counter to backsplash. There are many ways, including not totally match to match.

Miriam, Here are 2 shots of our kitchen.

The cabinets are BM Gardenia, a very warm white.

The tile is Daltile Rittenhouse Square subways in Black & Arctic white.

My SW Dover White cabinets have a bright white subway tile separated by LG Viatera Rococo quartz countertop. You don't really notice the difference in color because of the intervening countertop. Just as long as they are harmonious, you will like the results. I think it's more important that the backsplash be harmonious with the countertop.

Banana Suit I love your floor! I have been contemplating white hex for our kitchen floor but I thought just black and white was not quite right for us. But seeing yours with grey mixed in is gorgeous! Can I ask you where you got your tile? Is it 1 inch or 2?

I have creamy white cabinets, backsplash, walls and light fixtures and they all work great together because the undertone is the same throughout.

Here is my kitchen in progress, though these aren't the greatest quality photos:

The counters are fantasy brown granite. On the perimeter, the base color in the granite is white, with grey and brown and bits of cream and green, and on the island it is mostly cream with swirls of grey.

We started to put up the mosaic backsplash you see in the first picture, and the colors go perfectly with the granite, but it is much too busy next to the movement in the granite.

I am aiming for a light and airy but warm and inviting feel to the kitchen.

megtannahill - thank you! It's 1in unglazed porcelain hex tile with white and two shades of grey (no black) so it has a matte finish. We have black and white hex tile in our bathroom but like you we felt the contrast was too harsh for our smallish kitchen. The tile is from Heritage Tile/Subway Mosaics. We laid out the design and the made the sheets for us. Dal Tile offers similar colors and finish but the edges are quite as rectified and they only offer solid color fields. This isn't bad if you just want to do a border but if you want a full on mosaic you're probably better off getting someone to make it for you than go through the madness of popping out all the tiles as you go. If you do want to go the custom route they can make about anything you want at Heritage Tile or they have a lot of predesigned options.

M G - that looks great! I would see a soft white with a satin finish with a light grey grout (that matches the color in the counters) looking very nice in there. If you don't need trim pieces Terra Verre has a white subway tile with nice edges that could look good in your kitchen.

I think you are smart to keep the backsplash simple with your pretty granite! We also have multiple whites going on- I'm sure yours will come together nicely.

I would prefer a softer white rather than a really bright white with the cabs (of course that's what I have!) but I think either will look good and it's really just a personal preference.

johnsoro25 - is your tile a cool white or a warm white? (i'm desperately looking for a cool white)

Ellie RK- my tile is a cool white, cabinets a warmer white. The UCL accentuates this as well. They are a beveled subway from Mosaic Tile- I'm sorry, but I don't know the name. Here's another view.
