Kick up the door to match the chairs.

An attractive wrought iron light would look good over the door.

I love the berry pink clay pots and they will look great with your gray house! I love pink and gray along with painting your door a fun, vibrant color.

I would beef up your pillars. They look too thin.

I would go with a vibrant turquoise or aqua. I love pink but not for a front door. Here is a great example:

when we had a grey house the pink flowers( zinnias, cosmos and roses) really popped against the siding. add some in the bed in front of porch. put fragrant herbs and white or yellow flowers in your pink pots. pink caladiums would work too. A deep teal or turquoise to match chairs would look good on door.

The door needs some wide trim around it. It looks like a utility room door the way it's just stuck in there with no trim. It doesn't even have as much trim as the windows (which could use more, so make them all match). Then paint the door. I'd also add railing on the two side sections.

Add new landscaping along front of house. When you add porch rail add handrails on both sides of steps as well.

Oh, I like the idea of that yellow door! Suggestions you have received are on point. I would also consider beefing up posts, front stairs and add white railing, where I live this would not be up to code for safety reasons.

groveraxle..thank-you for the red door idea..I have pink clay pots I have painted and intend to incorporate these into my color scheme on my front porch though & I'm afraid that color doesn't go well.

RosemaryR..thank-you on your opinion of the door being yellow..I like this too! I'm afraid I will choose a color that looks horrible with everything & afraid to try it..so many different shades??? I love this color idea with the turquoise & pink clay pots.

tatts....thanks tatts..I agree & didn't even see it till you mentioned it!!! I have only had this house 'bout a year & have decided this summer my front porch is my "get'r done" project...just having a hard time on paint color choice....???

If you love the turquoise w/the pink pots, then go for it, paint your door a rich raspberry, then add seat cushions in a print that incorporates your colors. Don't drive yourself crazy, you've got this and hey, it's only paint. Spray paint for the pots is cheap enough that you can change them out anytime and have fun with them, you can add stripes, dots - I even saw on BHG pots with house #s, e.g., if street address was 40, you'd have 3 pots: 1) No., 2) 4 and 3) 0. You might consider painting the ceiling a very very pale shade of your turquoise color. Try putting 2 tall planters by the door with grasses in them. Check out BGH website for front entry ideas. It's almost summer, enjoy your front porch!

I love your chairs and I love the turquoise door, but I think if you paint the door the chairs need to be white. The door looks unfinished without trim. You could add more turq w chair cushions to tie them in. Otherwise maybe consider hanging ferns for more color.

WOW groveraxle!!...that made it harder! :) I love both looks!

I like the idea of yellow still or the green shade as well. However you choose the furniture pieces because you like that color so perhaps a similar shade on your door would be best. What ever you love is the right color. Could you please post a final picture when you are done I think it will look very cheerful.

Thanks Janet0513..I am still considering yellow also..I wish groveraxle could do a funky yellow (sw)..on my front door also...And I will most assuredly post an image of the finished project. ..This evening I am going to re-arrange the furniture to get me started when I get home...I need to see my placement first...stay tuned!! :)

1 for pink and 3 for green and Janet0513 likes green & the idea of yellow....hmmmm

Haha, Snazzy, I did a yellow and didn't post it because I liked the pink and green doors better. Here it is:

If you want to see a specific color, post a swatch or the link to a swatch here and I'll do my best to match it.

And since you're counting votes, I think my favorite is the green, especially if you're going with the pink pots.

It's just paint! You can change it with the seasons if you can't make up your mind! You can also repaint your pots when you change door colors. I'm still voting for Funky Yellow though!

groveraxle...yep, your right...don't like the yellow as well either ....now that I can see it!.....your sneaky!! :)...and thanks a bunch for doing this for me!!

I agree with beef up the posts- they look too weak to support the roof above. Also, a guardrail would make it look and feel more like a porch, as well as help prevent a slip off the edge.

Okay...so this evening I have removed the Clematis that was against the porch...removed the old mat...changed my wicker furniture from one end to the other & hung a big metal sun that I had, at the end of the porch (thinking it is going to come down though.. I think it looks a little tacky???)...going to get ready to plan some landscaping in front....not sure where to place the wicker seating though???

That big metal sun would probably be best in the backyard.

I would suggest you add white shutters OR have shutters the same color as the roof, but please keep the door white. I also would suggest an off-white for the porch floor and the white trim color for the backs or risers of the steps. A nice rail painted white will highlight the steps and add safety. You might add some black and white floral print cushions or throw pillows to the turquoise chairs, but be careful not to cover up too much of that beautiful turquoise. Some plants in turquoise-painted pots also will add color and life to the scene.

I'm surprised that your homeowners insurance company has not requested that you have a railing around the porch. I know a railing would make the porch safer, especially since you are putting furniture on it. When we moved into our house last April, the first thing we had to fix was putting up a railing on our front porch. Our insurance company told us that if we did not put a railing up, they were going to drop us. We did what they asked!

Bec There are several front porches in my small town that do not have porch railing...not a "must"..but I think it's a good idea for safety anyway ...plus it looks good.

Your porch appears to meet "codes" just fine.

    International Residential Code

    GUARDRAILS

    R312.1.1 Where required.

Guards shall be located along open-sided walking surfaces, including stairs, ramps and landings, that are located more than 30 inches (762 mm) measured vertically to the floor or grade below at any point within 36 inches (914 mm) horizontally to the edge of the open side. Insect screening shall not be considered as a guard.

    .

    HANDRAILS

    R311.7.8 Handrails.

Handrails shall be provided on at least one side of each continuous run of treads or flight with four or more risers.

And, since a guardrail is not "required", you would not need to follow any height requirements either, if you choose to install one for looks.

    R312.1.2 Height.

Required guards at open-sided walking surfaces, including stairs, porches, balconies or landings, shall be not less than 36 inches (914 mm) high measured vertically above the adjacent walking surface, adjacent fixed seating or the line connecting the leading edges of the treads.

Maybe a trellis on end would create more the feeling of a room for chairs. And you could grow your clematis on it

For a quick fix to disguise the pillars, put one of the pretty pink pots beside each one and grow climbing plants up them. Group other pots around and plant fillers and spillers. I vote for the lime green door (it's the perfect neutral - goes with every other color), but paint the door trim the same color to avoid that 'skinny trim' look. Hang a pair of curtains on the open end of the porch and tie them back to the house and the pillar. If you could get another turquoise chair the loveseat could stay one one side and the chairs on the other. Two small tables painted using all the colors would tie everything together.
