Why do you want to? What is it that you're trying to achieve?

My thought was to make it a more modern farmhouse feel.

I wouldn't use vinyl. It looks like plastic. I would do something with hardie siding or similar product. Do you have any inspiration photos?

I would never use vinyl siding, and I would keep the siding on this house horizontal. You've already got lots of vertical elements. Vertical siding will simply elongate the house and distort its already-perfect proportions.

I'm not against vinyl siding since you already have it on the home. You have to decide how to set off the different shape on your building for vertical board and batten siding to look appropriate. Often looks good on the gables of the houses.
