Hi Mar, when my husband saw the deep blue waterline tile I chose he also panicked! We have a somewhat similar build where the "wall" is in browns and the waterline is deep dark blue. After the pool was built the waterline tile was half hidden so a lot less noticeable. Blues and browns look beautiful together, and the blue tile will blend with the water since it's at the bottom. Now if it was at the top of the wall that would be another thing altogether! Just make sure that the particular blue looks great with your brown mix. NPT has a ton of blue tile to choose from.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I also feel that the waterline won't be a problem. However the part that concerns me the greatest is the fact that the top part of the spa to the left is going to be completely ( all the way across ) in the royal blue shown above. Can you give me an objective eye and tell me, looking at a close up of the wall, if you think those two will clash greatly or look alright. Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by the "top part of the spa". Do you mean the wall above the left board? or the actual top edge you sit on? or the inside spa wall? It would help to have a closeup photo of both tiles in the sun and in the shade. If you want the effect to "blend" use a very similar color tile to the stacked stone (if it has to be tile. or just use more stacked stone). If you want it to really pop out and contrast, the blue or even some of the dark tones in the wall would do that. Also if you are sitting on this tile, test it out in the sun to make sure it won't get too hot.

Sorry about that. What I meant was the entire side of the spa going all around that's just above that brown wood they have placed half way around it. There will be Pennsylvania Bluestone on top for the spa coping like the rest of the pool. I was just concerned that so much blue going around the front of the spa would clash with these light colors and brown being introduced where we don't have it anywhere else. . I've looked at Sierra blue Ledger Stone and it really looks like it will blend better with the royal blue tile than this one does. I just feel like there's too much going on and it's one dark extreme to another light extreme. Thoughts are welcome. Attached is a picture of the Sierra blue, however this is an old sampling so there is less white in it now. What do you think?

5birdy, I never got a chance to thank you for the above pictures! That was really nice of you to take the time to do this. It surely helped and I selected the Sierra Blue stacked stone and love it! Here is a picture of the finished product...still a ways to go, but its almost done. Thank you again for the help!

Oh Mar I'm so happy for you! I know it was a difficult decision especially having to remove some of the stone in place. Your pool really looks nice! So glad you posted the final decision. Won't be long and you will be enjoying the summer. Congrats!

Thank you, 5birdy and for all your help. It is coming along. concrete has been poured. We went with a lighter pink stamped concrete to blend in the back wall and brick on our patio. It is a little to pink right now as it's still fresh and the two tones have not appeared as yet...still looks pasty and we are a little scared, but hopefully it will fade to the color we had intended. So many choices and decisions to make with creating your own pool and until you get the work done, you don't know for sure how it is going to end up looking, so it is always a crap shoot, LOL. Are you in the business?

Oh my no, Mar! Got a chuckle out of that one. I just fully understand the crap shoot aspect of pool building now that we finished our first time build. We had some colored stucco applied and it looked fine "wet" - taupey brown - and then it dried a light yellow! So I ended up having to repaint over the entire finished project. I did learn a lot from researching prior posts here so like to check in occasionally, although the board is much less active now. Your dilemma was especially interesting!

What color concrete coping did you choose?

Hi Krista! Wow, it’s been so long since I shared this, I had forgotten about it. i decided against the concrete coping and went with stone. I selected the Pennsylvania stone and so happy i did! It looks gorgeous and blends in so well with my color scheme with its gray/blue color. I took the picture I posted above and enlarged it below so you can see the stone better. I hope this helps…would love to know your thoughts. Remember that concrete has a greater chance of cracking in time and I think the stone looks more elegant as well as being stronger.
