This planting area. Ideas? I'm yanking out the palm tree. The area with the bushes has already been planned out. Here's my question - is there anything that can be done to make the area with the pavers look good? The long term plan is to yank them up, but we have too many other projects that are taking precedence. They're going to be hard to get out of the ground. So many projects...

While you are thinking about the pavers, how about taking down the shutters. It would look so much better without them;)

Those pavers should not be hard to take out. Just a little muscle. I would offer them up free on Craigslist. They will pull them up. Win- win.

I once offered a CLF just for taking it out. A family of dog breeders were thrilled to get the fence and spent an afternoon getting it out of my yard!

We're taking care of the painting and shutters when we do the big overhaul of the landscaping. Right now we are just looking for something quick while we finish the interior. :) My sister-in-law has already called dibs on the pavers!

The shutters are just an unscrew and filler job, surely? Half a days work, tops. They date the house. Afterwards, if you want something quick, plant seasonal annuals.

Does the fact that your sister-in-law is taking the pavers solve this problem? You could just trim off the dry branches of the palm tree to improve the look of the front. Rake up the leaves & loose dead stuff & add some red bark will make a world of difference too.

I have plans for the shutters and all that. They're not the issue, but thanks for the ideas. No, my SIL wanting them does not solve it. When they come it, it starts a sequence of big changes - house painting, etc... We have too many projects inside to hit that now. I am asking if there are any ideas for a quick change to this area.

You could plant some "knockout roses" in the space. Do not plant them in a straight line. If you want more color, you could
plant some dianthus or petunias in the spaces between roses.
Buy either a 4 in or 6 in container to plant between the roses.

Power wash the pavers, or if creeping phlox grows in your area it would be a good thing to grow over the pavers. I agree with other posters, just trim brown palm branches and rake, put down some mulch. A few perennials behind the creeping phlox would brighten it up and distract the eye from the other stuff :) just needs a little spiffing up! Good luck

Maybe plants some annuals just to be cheery. The rest can wait until the big redo.

Plants that cascade down over the wall would spiff it up a lot. If you're looking for a temporary quick fix, vines like potato vine grow fast. Go to your local nursery center to see what fast growing "spillers" they recommend in your area.
