trees like near drying.. between waterings ... a too wet site.. may never dry enough.. for a transplant.. to settle in .. perhaps rotting off the roots ????

comparing mature plants.. to transplants ... is rather risky ...

perhaps you could have planted it on a small berm ... so it could get established.. and work its roots down into the wetness??

how big.. bare root... or a root ball of diverse soil???
