I almost always paint the ceiling the same color as the walls if the color is a light to mid tone shade. It expands the entire space. Having a white or white"ish" ceiling usually makes the ceiling look lower. A paint color always looks a different shade on the ceiling because of light. Also if you have white trim and add crown molding, it really shows up nicely on a ceiling with color that meets a wall with color.
