Thanks for asking about the open shelving we designed to keep this kitchen feeling comfortable for a bustling family. We wanted to balance the shelving on either side of the range, so it measures 27" to the left of the sink and 55" to the right, almost exactly twice. The shelves are 18" deep, which is deeper than conventional 12" wall cabinets, so they accommodate lots of tableware and glasses. These are things the family uses every day so there is no concern about dust accumulating. The top shelf contains lighting to illuminate items on the top shelf.
