Mine gets yellow not green. But I usually cut it back in the Spring. Right now the leaves are emerging. I'm in Zone 5b.

Are you talking about the woody Caryopteris x clandonensis? I have a photo of one fully leafed out June 5, and it wasn't leafed out on May 10, but I don't know exactly when between there it leafs out for me. It will leaf out at least 2 weeks earlier for you since you are quite a bit warmer and farther south than I am. There is also the herbaceous Caryopteris divericata. Right now neither type is showing any signs of greening up in my garden, but neither are most of the other woody plants.

Mine are pushing buds now.

Thanks to all who wrote. I decided to go with itea "Little Henry" instead of caryopteris. It too leafs out late, but it bushes out quickly once it gets going and looks great until mid-November (at least in my yard) .
