Window choices-need advice

Window estimates for 18 double hungs (one tempered), one slider, 2 picture, 4 basement hopper, 2 sliding glass doors:
Vytex Potomac $15,690; Fortis $700 less;
Okna 800: $16,000.
Comfortable with both contractors.
Thoughts?

The vytex potomac is one of the most solid windows ive seen. I've yet to see locks that are more heavy duty than the vytex potomac. Their sliding patio door is also one of the best i've seen.

Last estimate is Polaris ultraweld in same price range. Thoughts vs. Vytex potomac and Okna 800. Time for me to decide. Thanks.

the vytex and okna are better windows. the polaris is bulky and ugly in my opinion.

the potomac has a real nice looking interior design.

both vytex and okna will have better energy efficiency numbers and higher structural ratings as well. i used to offer polaris. the other 2 are better options. the polaris is certainly not a bad window, the others just look a lot nicer installed and have some better ratings.

Lat question-major diff b/t Okna and Vytex was pully system in Okna vs constant force balance in Vytex. Okna contractor made a big deal of this, but based on the performance of the cords in my builders grade Andersens, I have an aversion to cords. I'm not seeing why the constant force is so bad-just a sales tactic?

I prefer the constant force. The potomac is 3/4 stainless steel and very strong.

the other is ok as well but the 3/4 constant force would be my choice if i manufactured a window. I always disliked the chord system but the newer ones are a big improvement. Both will last.

Some guys mistakingly confuse the old spiral balance systems which i hate, with the constant force. 2 totally different balance systems. Only the low end companies still use spiral balances. That may be what the other contractor is feeding you.

Another great window and one of the better windows made is soft lite elements window and they also use constant force and although its a good window like the others you saw, its mucho expensive. The contractor claiming the chord is better is using a sleazy type sales tactic.

Regardless of the choice, your pricing is incredible. Where I live, that many windows & doors, installation, options, etc... wouldn't add up to be be on the same planet as those prices. I had half as many items and got quotes on many of those same brands. All of my quotes (again, for less stuff) are above what you list.

I had one estimate start above 20K and magically decrease to 15K if I signed that night. No thanks, that's sleazy. Other quotes were legit, but not done negotiating yet.

To be honest michael, those prices are cheap as heck. You must have a contractor that really likes you, those are ridiculously cheap for both windows.

i cant see a contractor offering the potomac coming in that cheap. Im surprised you didnt jump on it, you dont want the contractor having second thoughts. Good luck.
