Carolyn, Thank you for confirming my thoughts in regard to using a subway tile.

I think it works fine. Will still give the wow of granite but on a budget. Tile on the splash would be a nice contrast. I have used some glass 1x1's that were cute and cheap at $9.00 per sq foot my cost. Just a thought.

I think that the subway tile offers a classic look with more lasting appeal at a lower price.

You are all so wonderful! Thank you for your input. My other thought is Bliss Linear Mosaics for the backsplash , granite on countertops with a waterfall detail (that covers the end panel of the cabinet) on the peninsula. Picture is the granite, mosaic and floor. The mosaics appear much more blue in the pictures and the floor is not as red. Cabinets are linen so that brings out the stone in the mosaics.
The question is: In your opinion will this have a broad appeal to both men and women?

I'd prefer to keep it neutral which the linear mosaic does not seem to do.

i'm with carloyn on the subway tile. the granite has so much speckle it might be a bit much as a backsplash too. the glass seems busy in the photo.

I have to admit I'm already very tired of the glass mosaic tiles, especially the multi-colored ones. I agree with Carolyn that a more neutral subway tile would be more timeless, which is presumably what one wants in a rental property.

I would not use the same granite for the backsplash. Tends to look like a mosuleum

I have had many rentals and where I could, I put granite on the counters & the backsplash, often I would look for remnants..great deals...it makes for much easier maintenance if it is all granite.

That is my thinking as well, Barbara. Need to make it as "cleanable" as possible. I was able to get this 3 cm (using 2 cm on backsplash) granite for $29SF installed.

I would do it.
