TR - About AT&T

I saw your post on Rose's thread (about her tv in the bedroom), mentioning how much you were paying AT&T, we are in the same boat with Uverse/internet/phone, just passed our promo period and the bill shot up to almost 200.00. I looked around the net for other options and found an article on lowering the bill so I followed the advice, called Comcast and got their promo pricing for tv and internet and then called AT&T to see if they could better it.

The first guy would only upgrade the whole package and lower the price by about 30.00 but he transferred me to someone else when I demurred. She did a much better job, would either leave everything as it was and drop the price back to the introductory amount (122.00) or upgrade the internet to Max Plus and lower everything to 107.00 before taxes and fees (better promo deal with that internet level) - this is only for 12 months but said I could call back at the end of it and see what other promo deals are going and even drop the net back to the elite we have currently.

If you're not in a promo period you can call them and see what they'll do for you, arm yourself beforehand with deals you can get elsewhere (Comcast or streaming services, etc.), the AT&T resolution number is 800-288-2020, if whomever you speak to isn't helpful or doesn't offer to transfer you to someone higher, just call back later to get someone else on the line, can't hurt and may be quite helpful.

Thank you so much for sharing this! And it's funny that you should share this, as our promo period just recently expired and DH did exactly what you did - called and negotiated a better rate for the current period, although he didn't get a quote from another company before doing so, just called AT&T and said we weren't getting good value for the money and asked them what they could do about it. Initially the rep offered to upgrade our package and "only" charge us $5 more a month, but DH said he didn't want 300 more channels of "crap" and stood firm on getting a better deal for our current package. He got his way, after a bit of back and forth, but the rep was very nice about it. I would imagine these types of calls are not terribly unusual.

I am of the opinion that it never hurts to ask for something you want. The worst that can possibly happen is to be told no.

Thanks again for thinking of my situation and for sharing this. Hopefully others will find it helpful as well.

ghosly, I did this with my service provider as well. The first lady I spoke with didnt want to help me much but I insisted on speaking to someone else who gave me the promotion deal that new customers received. There is actually a department that deals with "loyalty customer service".

Very cool Rose, it can take some persistence, and sometimes more than one call to get another CS person who will work with you but it's well worth the effort. It's annoying that this has to be done, esp. if you live in Texas where the electricity market is deregulated so every year you have to search through provider plans and haggle with someone to not break your bank just to have household electricity but I guess that's the world we live in now.

I did respond to this Friday morning. Is my post not appearing for you above? I can see it.

That's so weird, I only see Rose's posts above (and my response to her).

I don't see an earlier reply from TR, but I need to take the time to press AT&T to do better by us.

I don't see the message from TurquoiseRose either. I would be interested in your post TR if you can repost it. My daughter is having this same money issue with AT&T. We were just talking about it and she is looking. I am going to tell her about this message thread.

I don't see it either, so bizarre, why is Houzz hiding your post from everyone but you?

Oh, I wanted to add, this is the article I orginally read, it's a couple years old but the phone numer to AT&T resolution still works:

Good to hear also got a better deal TR, I too imagine it's not unusual for them to get these kinds of calls and it taking a little persistence to get them to make staying with them more attractive, or at least less painful in the wallet. The second person I spoke with said her daughter and I share the same interest in our net usage (trial watching/sleuthing), it was a more fun conversation that I had pictured it being. lol Anyways, I suggest anyone dealing with any provider to call and see what can be done to lower their costs, like you said, it never hurts to ask.

TR, your Friday comment did not show up for me yesterday, this morning (Monday) it's here. Another miracle?

It's showing now for me too, carp and all. lol
