This is a Jotul stove made in Norway in the 1970s. We have one like it and love it. It is very modern looking and still very much in demand. If you do not like it I would urge you to sell it and give some one an opportunity to get something they would love to have as they are hard to come by today. Then you can use the money and do whatever you want in that space.

It is a cast iron stove and not meant to be covered up. The door comes down and can slide underneath the stove allowing it to function as a fireplace. There is a screen attached to the back of the stove that then serves as your fireplace screen. When you go to bed you close it all up and it will emit heat for a long time.

I will admit yours is located in a very odd spot, maybe it is meant to heat your whole house from that location. It is not centered on the base either but I assume that is due to the door being right there.
