Need help getting rid of these totally outdated half wall spindles. I am helping my sister do some updating in her 60's/70's home. We have already purchased a new sectional for the family room and have done some other redecorating. Our main dilemma now is how to remove the spindles on the half wall between the kitchen and family room. I've done some research and I don't think the spindles are weight bearing but can anyone give me information on how to be sure. Also, if they aren't structural, what is the best way to remove them and what should I expect when they are removed. Will I have to replace all the trim where the spindles are attached or can I sand and stain them. Here are some "before" pictures.
