Dealing Compassionately with Ant Hill

last modified: 10 years ago

OK, this may make me sound like a wimp, but here goes: I respect all forms of life--including worms, ants, etc., --and do all I can to avoid harming them. With that in mind, I have an ant hill in my backyard about the size of a large saucer and not far from my deck. I'd rather not disturb it, but I'm wondering if by allowing it to exist, it may eventually result in adverse consequences. Are they likely to try to get into my home? Will they overtake the nearby tree and damage it? I believe that the ants are reddish in color, but I need to take a closer look to verify this. Whatever advice/feedback you can offer would be welcome. Thanks.
