Crown molding around fireplace

My husband and I plan to place crown molding in our family room. After looking at many pictures in Houzz, I find that I prefer the crown molding that goes completely around the fireplace, as opposed to stopping at each side. He has installed crown molding before and owns his own power miter box, but he is unsure about applying the crown to our stone fireplace, as it has many irregularities in each stone, and there would be gaps between the stone and crown. Any ideas or expert opinions on how to do this would be most welcome.

I am not sure this is the best place to ask that question. Have you posted in Design Dilemma? I also wonder if this style fireplace would even benefit from a crown molding around it. It feels rustic and crown is more traditional. But I am sure you know what you are doing.

Yes, realized I was in the wrong spot after I posted it. Thank you, I did put it in Design Dilemma.

Its highly unlikely that as skilled as your husband is, he will not be able to install that crown mold to either his or your liking. I would just do the rest of the room and skip the fireplace.
