I like the existing furniture.

I suggest painting the room and/or getting new bedding.

I love the bedding and the art! I suggest taller end tables and modern lamps. Grometted curtain panels hung so when open, the entire window can be seen. Looks very nice!

I bought the bedding to tie in with the aqua accent in the furniture. I am open to colors but lean towards navy and white.

Just some budget saving tweaks:

--Replace the old fashioned lamps with much more modern ones in straight lines and crisp white drum shades.

--New modern fan in white

--White linen ceiling-to-floor drapes that you can keep pulled aside during the day.

--Large original abstract seascape over the bed.

--No artificial plant if that's one in the corner. If you live there full-time, and the light is good, get a dramatic real tropical plant.

--Check thrift shops for a very large horizontal mirror, which you can paint white to replace those on the dress. This will reflect the art work you get for over the bed.

--Reupholster the side chair in a very modern fabric in driftwood and blue pattern that coordinates with bed linens.

The room itself looks great, very nice space. Really the current furniture etc looks very good, but I can see why you would want your own touch.

I can not truly see the art over the bed, but it seems oddly hung and personally I do not hang art over my head in bed.

As an artist, I would go for less, minimalize things. But make things richer.

The wall by the window, the space to the left of the window needs a vertical piece of art. Taking down the stuff over the bed perhaps.

Love the Monet!! not so much the other, the reason for the art over the bed is the headboard on the bed is so low, I thought to bring some height to the bed. I guess not, I appreciate your feedback very much.

To add height to the room, drapes like those in the "Beach House" photo above would work. Notice that the rod goes all across the window wall. When opened, the drapes would frame the window.

Consider moving one of your chairs to the corner if it's not too big to replace the fake plants.

The chairs there are going as is the desk/dressing table. Would like to replace with chair and ottoman for reading. I guess the fake plant is going also.

You only have to paint the bed wall navy to get the effect. Once your window is opened up properly, the light will help minimize any heaviness you fear from the navy.

I do like that idea... I think I would need a white headboard to pull that off do you agree, and what about the other walls? beige?

Mcpherson (love saying that with a Scottish accent, so satisfying), of all the inspiration pics posted above, is there one that speaks to you? I'm also not sure whether you want to "tweak" what you have, or "transform" the room. For me the big difference lies in mood and impact.

Deco's suggestion of painting the bed wall navy would take you on the road to transformation.

I am open to all ideas. the rest of the condo is blue and white so navy would blend rather then the pastels there now. I was thinking of a seagrass bed. I also am torn with plantation shutters or drapes and woven blinds.

You may just need a seagrass headboard to get what you want. This one's available in three colours. It would look great with a navy and white mix -- though I'd get a little warmth into the white.

Why not try a navy upholstered headboard? Paint your furniture white if you can not replace at this time. Do the sea grass for the reading chair. New lamps, mirrors above nightstands and a lovely art piece, or gallery wall above dresser.

With the navy and white scheme, and the sea grass headboard, the matchstick blinds would be great. Together with the headboard, they would add texture and warmth that would be great with the crisp color scheme.

Blue Booby I like the navy headboard. I do have a sisal rug there now and painting the furniture is an idea! not crazy about the size of the nightstands sort of low. Maybe if I change the lamps. Thanks for the great ideas

Hi Rina, let me try to help you solve this issue, create some additional space and maybe even save you some money in the process. One of the strongest trends I see in my practice is removing furniture from bedrooms and using space in the closet that may not be efficiently utilized. Closets now incorporate drawers/dressers, mirrors, hampers, and lots of other features. In your specific case you could get rid of at least 1-3 pieces and capture more space in the bedroom (and buy less furniture when and if you make that move). One warning though, one of the most common mistakes I see homeowners make is when they see open space they feel compelled to fill it. In this bedroom it would be nice to get some additional open space. In fact, if you slide the bed a little left you might be able to create a more comfortable space for your dressing table. This would also allow you a larger number of window treatment options. If you you remove the large dresser you could leave it open or create a very shallow media center on the newly open space on the right wall. When It comes to window treatments I can only advise you to maintain the light you have in this space whatever you do...it's really nice. Thanks Mark, I have two big closets before you enter the master bathroom, and in time I would love to have them professionally done. You bring up some good ideas.

You can always paint, but you need to spend some money on side tables and lamps and headboard. If you do a navy headboard, you wouldn't want to change the wall color? If the headboard had white wood and navy inside, you could do navy behind it. And yes, the room seems cluttered. Hence removing mirrors which are odd anyway and moving paintings reduces clutter.

Has someone mentioned the flooring? you have a rug? But adding navy can make whole look more conservative, less beachy... a darker look. Navy could be a lamp or chair cushion, striped or not....

What I can't see in photo/ but doesn't seem ideal -- is lime and orange pillows.

Not sure if you want to go towards Hamptons or just a relaxed beachy vibe in general but some further photos to mull over...I really like the navy wall in this one & the use of white linen offsets it well along with the modern ethnic patterned blue & white accent cushions & footstool, the black & white photo adds just enough interest but keeps everything serene despite the dark traditional style of furniture, the light rug adds just the right contrast.

White walls are given a more casual look with the batten effect & mixing up the furniture in black & white contrasts well with the navy throw blanket & pillows. A touch of cane seems at home in this relaxed room too.

More serene & neutral but some interest in the vertical wallpaper keeps it classic but relaxed & using shutters always seems beachy to me. Nothing wrong with woven shades & drapes either if that is your preference.
Dark timber horizontal wall paneling might seem dated but many resorts still use this look to create the feeling of luxury in a tropical retreat. The rest is fairly neutral & easily changed out if you want to inject colour accents.
White linen always speaks of resort style holidays & luxury to me. When I looked for pictures the ones with too much woven material & seashore themes seemed a bit dated to me.

everdebz I do have a sisal rug, and maybe I will loss the pillows they do pick up colors in the comforter but you are right. Still looking for a complete change.

Yes, it does and right here on Houzz. I do like the blue wood beds better though. You could find one and paint it just the right shade. And I agree, reduce the furniture in the room.

I also like the blue bed against a slightly lighter blue wall posted above. Do you have enough room for two small chests as nightstands? If not, one chest and another side table at same height. Then eliminate the chest at the foot of the bed and maybe even the dressing table.
