MNF June perfect pairs swap

I'm posting this a bit early to give players a chance to choose/buy/make their perfect pairs.

The month of June will be a perfect pairs swap. This means that everything you send your partner will be a perfect pair in your opinion. It will be required that at least one of your pairs be a pair of plants that you believe are perfect together, the other two pairs will be up to you to decide. I will be sending mostly plants but have a few ideas for other perfect pairs. I would like to have everyone send in a medium flat rate box.

The deadline to mail your package to your partner is June, 21st.

The earliest mail date is June,1st.

Sign up here, games will start on the first of June!

Recap.......

Mail by date: June, 21st

No packages mailed before June, 1st

Mail in a medium flat rate box

Requirements: at least 3 perfect pairs, one pair must be plants. The other two may be whatever you decide to send your partner.

That's it....

Lisa

I know the answer but I've won one this swap so I will just guess a letter: D

I started these from seeds I believe were shared by Lisa a few years ago. I guess they have been busy developing bulbs. Happy!

Alana, it doesn't matter if you have already win. Please take your guess.

Okay. This is how I see it. Friends are like good bras: supportive, hard to find, and close to the heart.

Alana, that's what I had just figured out too. Congratulations!

That is a nice flower. What is it called?

It's an Alstroemeria. It came from a shared pack of commercial seeds for "Ligtu Hybrids," but it looks like the species A. pulchella, aka Parrot Lily.

Thanks, Alana. Lot of new words to me in that reply of yours. I just did a quick google search as I had not heard of them before. Some of the pictures remind me of clivia flowers although these look to be more zone hardy. Always nice to learn new things. I will have to be on the lookout for these.

Alana -- Congratulations! Also, great picture!

Can anybody ID this member of the Allium family? There is a row of them across the West side of our house and I kept mowing and trimming around them ....expecting flowers

The first ones popped open yesterday but no flowers . Now there is a squiggley thing on the top. Not very exciting so far.

Beth, those are Egyptian walking onions. They don't flower but those bulblets will grow a new plant.

Beth, you've got yourself some walking onions, you lucky girl! When I was a kid I had an aunt in Ohio who had some, and it was a game for us to see where the onions had traveled to in her backyard every year. Those are good memories, thanks!

Thanks to both posters for the ID. Guess what is going to be one of my yard sale items??????

Beth, I'm planning to put my EWO in the yard sale too! It is one of the things that should be fine shipping in the heat.

Don't forget to post you lists of yard sale items before the 15th! It was fun watching the various items being offered up in the OBF last month!

Bingo words. Coreopsis and tiarella. I got my box from faye today, she did a great job! I'll post a pic in the am. Thank you faye for the thoughtful box!

    Tiarella was last Tuesdays word.

Ooops, I must have written it twice onyou list..thank you! Replacement word is epimedium.....

Faye, how do your plant markers hold up? I like them.

Congrats, Alana....I have been MIA. Alstroemeria make bulbs? What zone are you in, Alana...I dont think these will overwinter for me; but did try to WS some this year, didnt get any germination. Did you ws or start inside?

Lisa, enjoyed hearing about your outing. Sorry to hear some of the plants you were hoping to get were not available, but sounds like you came home with some goodies.

Been working as hard as I can planting WS seedlings; on vacation this week. Got alot of work to do! :) Have a great week everyone~!

I'm zone 7a Val, which I think is the most Northerly clime that they can tolerate. I'm sure you could grow them in containers though, or dig up the bulbs and store for replanting the next season.

Alstroemeria seeds sometimes germinate in a few weeks but can take a year. I used GA-3 (Gibberellic acid) to help them break dormancy and speed up the process. They need to germinate and grow cool but not freezing to begin, so I initially sowed mine in a minimally heated greenhouse in winter and planted them out in spring. I believe this is their third year in the ground.

Today's bingo words are peony and foxglove. If there isn't a winner by 6pm tonight. I will call 2 more words to try and force a winner.

    Lisa,

I am glad you liked your box. I hope the plants made it in the heat.

The labels do hold up well. I used a labeler to make the names with. And they are weather proof. You can also reuse the labels. You can peel them off and add another or take a sharpie and write on it. You can take the sharpie off the nail polish remover. I like the labels for this reason.

    Enjoy your box.

    Faye!

Bingo words for tonight are: pulmonaria and crambe.

Faye, The hosta earth angel will be fine as will the solomons seal. The Japanese fern I'm pretty sure is a goner....BUT I'm happy with package anyway! I'm interested to know what type of labeler you are using. There are so many I don't know which to buy.

    Hopefully, someone calls bingo soon!

Okay, I couldn't log on for some reason yesterday. Here are 2 more bingo plants. Ligularia and filipendula. First one to call bingo wins.

Well, I am no where near Bingo. How is everyone else doing? Went to the beach today..I'm on vacation but have been planting out all my WS seedlings this week...Making progress, but there are ALOT of seeds!

Alana, I dont know if I have the patience (nor the minimally heated green house!) for the Alstroemeria. They are just gorgeous, tho! Maybe some day I'll experiment :)

Faye, I'm curious what label maker you use also; and what do you put the labels on? Plant markers (plastic), blinds or ??

Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!

My first ever Japanese iris bloom in the garden :)

I still need six words and Got nothing today.

My garden has gone on summer vacation. I'm shopping for fall seeds and planting summer heat lovers melons, sweet potatoes, okra and eggplant.

Funny thing, my potatoes and turnips are hanging in there. No signs of dying off. The turnips might wait until next year to flower.

The potatoes just started flowering which means they might grow through July. This is the closest I've ever come to growing to harvesting potatoes. Second year trying. Got a great harvest of pink flowering strawberries.

I got lost last week and stopped playing altogether when I accidentily erased half my list.

    I still need five words.

Dan, I accidentally erased my list last week too but I went into my sent mail and found my words again. Go look. You may have won and not known it!

Dan, I emailed your words, you only need one word and that's because you chose sedum twice.

As I said, I wasn't following members words. If you would like, email me a bingo plant to replace your double sedum and I will not read your response and will continue to call bingo plants.

Today the bingo plants will be columbine and sedum.

Lisa, I picked a flower to replace one of my sedums, thank you for sending my list back to me. I appreciate it much!

I'm such an airhead that I read Dan's email with his new word...ugh! I'll give my husband the list to pick two bingo plants from when he gets up..stay tuned.

    Gardengirl, I didn't forget about your two prizes. I'm waiting to mail all the prizes at once. :}

    I call foul! LOL!

Well, he has picked. He didn't want to because he didn't know what he was picking. I'm sure he thought my next plant purchase BUT when I told him it was for a game. He said the 5th and 7th. Sooooo. our plants are Delphinium and Darmera.

    I swear he picked...lol

    Lisa

Lisa, I didn't think you forgot. I know you said you wanted to wait in case I won Bingo. I can tell you that is unlikely although I have a lot more words now than when you first said that. I still have three words to go. As far as I can tell, Dan is the closest to winning.

I think that's hysterical your husband was afraid it was your next plant purchase! :o) Sounds kind of familiar

I win with delphinium!!! BINGO!!! And y'all have had 7 hours to claim it, but that's over now...lol!!!

Dan -- Congrats on the bingo!
