Which went down first? The floor or baseboards?

I am trying to accomplish the same look and our trim carpenter wants floors to go down first. Did the floor or baseboards go down first?

Hello and thank you for your question! There can be multiple answers to this question because of the sequencing of installation and coordination between trades. So you may hear different techniques from various contractors depending on what style base you select.

On this particular project the floor was installed first, then the base. After which, the base was taped and painted, then the floor was stained. The base is scribed to the floor for a very clean and modern transition. Such a base detail may increase labor costs because of the craftsmanship required to construct a crisp edge at the floor. We hope this helps, and good luck with your project!
