@mmilos, thanks for your thoughts! I never thought about the mirror on the smaller wall.....I wanted it to reflect the chandelier, which I suppose it still would since it's a convex mirror. We also just moved our TV that was along the wall behind the leather chair, so perhaps that's why I never envisioned the mirror there.

Yes, the proportion would be better if you traded the mirror and sconces for a piece of art hung 5" above the sofa back. Keep it within 75% of the sofa's width. When you move the mirror group, the center point of the grouping should be 57-60" above the floor. They'll be much more impressive dominating the smaller wall rather than being lost on the larger one. You've obviously left a pathway where the keyboard is, but I prefer the rug be centered in the room and not to touch the baseboards. Yesterday, I was doing a layout at an antique shop, and I worked with a dining table and chairs to match your coffee table. Too bad you don't have it for your home. If you can use extra seating, consider a bench under the window. Can you lower the chandy some?

The chandelier can't be lowered as it would somewhat be in the way since the coffee table isn't fully centered under it. The hairpin console table is on the far wall, where I think you mention a keyboard.

Hi, love the mirror and the sconces and your wall color and the room itself. Personally I don't think you are successfully pulling off the eclectic look but that is only my opinion and at the end of the day you have to be happy with it, not anyone else. I think there is too much going on , it appears to be too busy to me. All the cushions appear to be different, all your seating is different ( not saying it should all match in style, but maybe same color might help unify things a bit). The chandelier seems a bit insubstantial to me

Too much brown. Additionally, you are talking English country style furniture and trying to marry it to a modern minimalist style and it ain't working. Either embrace the country vintage lived in look or start over and go modern. The room looks unfinished and not pulled together. It looks a bit like you went shopping at a garage sale and forgot to inject your things into it. Where are the family photos, the books, the anything that makes it look like a person lives in this room? That's not clutter, it is what separates your home from a hotel room.

The mirror and sconces seem a bit small for the big wall They would work nicely over this brass nail head chest below on the smaller wall. I would also consider adding some representational impressionist art.

I love your style. I can envision a tall built in shelf on the left wall. You mentioned not wanting to clutter the space but highlighting your books and treasures (which by the looks of the room so far are probably fantastic) would be a neat touch. I've seen some really fun ikea hacks that can be customized to your space. Just a thought but overall a wonderful space.

wow. I think Bell...maggie was a bit harsh! you did say you just moved and and are just starting with the decorating and "fun" stuff. I don't think you have to start over! Usually you would put the larger piece of art on the larger wall but if you love the mirror and want to keep it center stage do it! you can help make it appear larger by adding just a few more items to the wall without going crazy and cluttering it like you mentioned. you could add a large ornate frame around the mirror or 2 smaller frames around the sconces. or a few smaller prints. just to fill up the wall (but still keep it between your lamps and uncrowded). the room does look unlived in, but probably just because you just moved in! maybe a small console table or chest under the window with a few personal photos items. or your favorite book or flower arrangement on the coffee table? you definitely need to add some of your personality. good luck and have fun with it! and don't let anyone get you down about your style. it makes you... you!

I would push it all to the right to center on the chandelier, then add a narrow console/sofa table on the left blank wall. I would very much prefer the mirror over the console, with art over the sofa. There's a difference between cluttered & decorated. It must be balanced & therein lies the art of accessorization.

I love your area rug! In addition to what other have said, I think that curtains would help warm up the space and soften all the hard edges. Also your end tables are a bit undersized compared to the sofa and lamps.

Add a large piece of Art over sofa and make it the focal point to anchor a room. Allow other items to take a secondary role. Don’t put everything to have a leading role... it will just result in visual noise.

The mirror and sconces are very ornate even for your eclectic look and the rest of the furnishings. I can see why you like it but maybe it would look better in an entry where it would have more clout.

Go with a bigger live plant in the corner.

I really like the style of the room, with its blend of vintage, modern, and classic styles. Your attention to detail shows. The room needs more "layers", so to speak. I agree with prior suggestions that you need a bigger piece, perhaps art, above the sofa and maybe a few more pieces of furniture, like a console table or cabinet.

@puremichigan60, thank you for your thoughts! Like I mentioned we just pulled the TV from this room so that it didn't become a focal point. I hung the mirror before really settling on the setup....so I would like to keep it where it is, but adding to the other wall space--to include more color.

@wenbeth, I was thinking about a skinny/narrrow console table behind the leather chair with a large art piece on the wall. Though I would like to keep an open feel, specifically for guests and once kids come along. ;)

OasisDesign&Remodeling, you mean pushing the rug and furniture all to the right? My initial thoughts were to center around the chandelier, which as you can see, leaves some open space on either side.

I second curtains. Just some panels to soften up the room.

I think you are doing some fun things in your room. I love your lamps, so mcm, and I think you need something that they can relate to so I suggest a drum shade on the living room ceiling instead of the chandeleir; it is too light weight.

I also think a pair of pillows that match in a strong solid color, maybe teal/green to again relate to your lamps. Remove all the busy pillows and just add one that you love and rotate them throughout the seasons but keep the two solid all year round.

If you add curtains either geometric floral solid or strip add an accent tape on the inside edge in again the teal green of your lamps. I keep going back to the teal color because your lamps have a nice presence in the room and it a good jumping off point for repeating in other areas of the room.

Your mirror over the sofa seems to be staying as you are happy with it in its place, but it appears a bit high to me and candles might be an added bonus.

I agree with the art work idea on either wall and perhaps a storage chest/console under it for future toy bins. The art might include a second less noticable accent color that can be added to the room for added interest.

It is so easy to fear doing something 'off' in a room and end up doing things so matched that there is no exceptions that draws your interest. If you are doing a vintage/collected look with what you already own then a great book that pushes this concept along is Laurie Ward's Use What You Have Decorating that can be found in your local library. I think it has some great concepts that can be used in any room your are decorating.

The chandelier is too wimpy. The furniture needs to expand. It is too close together. The plant should go. A large painting would look nice on the empty wall or else a grouping. Something nice on the coffee table. It looks pretty nice, but could look fab.

I'd remove the hide and 'ikat' pillow. You asked someone about placing items at each side of the sconces - no I wouldn't.

I just linked to your pretty rug - why not have chair upholstery anew in one of its colors? Or at least - a throw.... like:

But if you would look at More Info's colors of this couch - there are less deep colors than the current one: celadon, café, etc.... [it wouldn't post the colors I mentioned]

What is on the wall opposite the sofa? Did you say that the TV is no longer in the room?

I like your scones. I had a relative that had some in their house and it was interesting to see when visiting.

For my two cents I might move the scones and mirror to the other wall but I gave you two options in the attached pics.
