Have you contacted the maker of the Eco Wood Treatment? I've seen red cedar leave "stains" on concrete just like this. It was due to the tannins in the wood, not necessarily the treatment itself. Red Cedar bleeds off a colour that is very much like red wine stains. This happens with or without sealant. White Cedar will have the same amount of tannins, but in a more gold or rust colour (colour of white wine instead of red). The tannin bleed is more pronounced after it rains.

As for the garage door, when using the sprayer, did you properly drape/tape off the door prior to applying the material?

What type of prep did you do to the cedar? What type of prep was required by the Eco Wood Treatment? Is there any documentation about the Eco Wood Treatment that mentions application over cedar? Some products have specific warnings about specific woods. I'm wondering if there was anything written that specifically mentions cedar.

You are right, the notice said that it would stain windows and concrete. I sas not aware of that, since i watched the video on youtube, that did not mention any warning and precaution. I found that the magicic eraser works quite well on the windows, but the Rust bleed on the concrete is still a concern. Thanks for your help

If Cedar isn't absolutely bone dry, and any fungal residuals lightly sanded off prior to application, that beautiful variation of rusts will occur. The UV will mottle it more bland as time passes. My issue is whether it's all that its crapped up to be. Couldn't find a MSDS on it either.

to return natural color to wood use Deck Brightener (oxalic acid). like always test a spot.....for concrete a light solution of concrete etch but best to use a professional.

This solution is design to react with the tannin in the wood.....i think your problem was that white cedar does not have a high concentration of tannin compared to red cedar or redwood......i have used eco with great results as a painting contractor but the wood should not have any contaminates on the surface and should be flooded with a hudson sprayer.....concrete has been a problem and have cleaned it with concrete etch with good results....Primarily this is a distressed finish and greys more with age so if you looking for a clean look this is probably not a good ideal.......for a water proof clear coating after its clean with deck brightener try using C2 Guard to give it protection but first talk to your local paint store (not home depot). every major paint company makes their version of a deck brightener so you should have no problem finding it.

Looks to me like the rust stains are rust stains. Are those steel column bases? Are they maintained with paint? If not, and not galvanized, they'll rust. Regarding splotches, my experience is that for a consistent look, you have to have a clean surface and brush the product into the grain evenly, not just spray it.

My wife and I bought a timber peg lake house last March and the interior was a monolith of orang-ish red cedar beams. While we love the structure - the deep orange tone was just not something we were thrilled with. The interior wood has never been stained or otherwise treated so we decided to use Eco Wood treatment. WOW!!! We and everyone else who visits the house are ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED with the results. The wood all turned a consistent, silvery chocolate color - not a hint of orange remains. The final color developed in about two weeks. I am so grateful to have discovered this product as I wanted the wood to look weathered/distressed without any shine or loss of wood grain visibility. We used a pump sprayer and did an occassional brush touch-up for the few areas that required a second application.

Hoping to resurrect this post as I’m researching this product for my deck. We live in the Northeast with long winters and a ton of moisture/lake effect snow.

Can anyone comment on how well it has held up on a wood deck that was previously painted? I plan on sanding it down to raw wood but wouldn’t be able to get between the boards. Zero maintenance seems too good to be true.

I also read one review that complained about permanent staining from bird droppings, cat urine, and a lime wedge. Contact with acidic materials appears to remove the product. Has anyone else experienced this?

Wood bleach powder, diluted with water will take rust off of concrete and bathtubs and showers if you have an iron heavy well as i do. My plumber taught me this trick last year, i cant believe how well it works

Hello I am researching this product for my deck. I have a big deck (60 feet by 20 feet) 5 years old that I had never stain or treat before. I was planning to apply some protection but I don't want to do any maintenance myself so I was looking at the eco wood treatment product. I want to know, since most posts are a year or 2 old, how is the experience after some time of this product. Also I was considering Thompson Waterseal clear protection. I dont know much about these products and I will appreciate your help and expertise!!! These are two pics of my deck. Thanks!

It stained my concrete where the sprayer leaked without me realizing... this is just eco wood treatment straight from my mixing bottle. Not happy.

I'm using this stain on huge fir beams in my new post and beam house after finding that very very expensive stains like weatherwood do not tackle red consistently and leave a horrible result. I spoke with that company btw and they are extremely ignorant and unhelpful. I used this stain in desperation after the builder recommended it. I'm impressed. the result is more consistent. it can stain very dark to black but I sprayed a bleach solution, why not, over the staining and the beams lightened up. they look excellent. oxalic acid can be used for the same purpose but wearing protective gear is a must. For lightening one can also use a white maintenance oil on the wood. great result too.

I want a light grey on my western cedar siding .I applied some Eco to an extra piece of cedar. It's a lot darker than I had hoped. If I add more water to the 1 gallon would I get a lighter color?
