The Light Grey or White would look great with your cabinetry. See if you can get a few tiles in each colour and put them up against the backsplash area to see which one you prefer. I would put the same tile behind the hood right to the top I would stay away from the mosaic and the stripe as you may tire of it quickly. Your kitchen looks great! I bet you'll be happy to start using it.

The tile size is fine but I oppose a stripe. It would either have to pass through electrical outlets, be fully above the outlets, which is too high, or fully below the outlets, which is just an odd location.

I agree with emmarene. No stripe. Its an outdated look.

I wouldn't go with the smaller tiles - stick with the bigger ones. The thin tiles stacked together could get too busy and LG Minuet is already such a beautiful quartz

Thank you for all the comments. We will stay away from the mosaic stripe. Does anyone think we should look at ceramic or natural stone like the one below or is that too busy? It sounds like everyone favors glass (large tiles or sheet) and keeping things simple. Are designs under hoods also an outdated look or is there some way to get a small splash of color there if we go with glass? I agree with Mary Dancey Interiors that we should go to the ceiling by the hood.

Good morning landj123 I didn't explain myself correctly yesterday and I apologize for that. What hood have you ordered? I can't tell if that hole above the cook top is for ventilation or a pot light. There are a few variables with your tile installation. Because your cabinets don't go to the ceiling taking your tile to the ceiling will look awkward. I would install it to the bottom edge of the crown or lower depending on the hood.

As far as material is concerned the ceramic or natural stone you posted above will look quite busy and compete with your beautiful new counter top. And I would stay away from any design that is busy under the hood. I think that you would tire of it and then you're feeling stuck with it or finding it costly and difficult to replace.

I did see a lovely custom area done once of an image the home owner had taken while on vacation in France or maybe it was Italy. They hired someone to custom make the tiles and it was stunning, they actually designed the kitchen around that image. This makes it personal though, like a fine piece of art on the wall the client would never tire of.

If you want to do something a little different, you could do the white or grey tile everywhere but under the hood and in that area have a piece of sheet glass made in the same colour as the tile or a sheet of stainless steel custom made or a sheet of the quartz you've used for the counter top. If you decide to go with the quartz you want to make sure the tile you chose compliments it perfectly. The great thing about a sheet good there is that the clean up would be much easier. :)

Thank you again for the comments. The hood we have purchased is a Zephyr (ZVEE42CS) which will fit perfectly in the space between the cabinets. I was all set to look into getting a piece of stainless steel for behind the hood until I saw this picture posted by Michelle Yorke. What a beautiful and subtle design. Do you remember who makes that tile? It may not work with my countertop but I'd at least like to see if it would. Also, are the subway tiles 4x12 white glass tiles? Thanks again for the input.
