Updating fireplace

Would love some suggestions on how to change the fireplace and media niche to make it look more updated. Don't love the raised hearth either and would love to change it as we are changing the flooring so it's good timing. What's challenging is that the fireplace isn't centered to the room. Thanks!

I would install white built-in cabinetry on the left side for a more custom and finished look.

I agree with filling in the arched center niche - it reads dated.

Adding to the off center FP is the window to the right. Do you have the inclination or budget to change out that long window? Imagine that window not being to the floor and extending the fireplace step/hearth to the corner. That would help the room feel more balanced.

I don't believe there is a way to lose the raised heath however..............

May we see shot of the wall to the right of the window plz?

ok thanks for the pic - that helps.

What is your style now? Are you in love with the brick? Are you in love with the oak cabinetry?

A comprehensive design plan is in order. What flooring are you intending for both rooms?

This is a house we will move into so none of those choices were mine. I am open to changing all of it! Flooring will be hardwood and the oak desk will be painted white.

Left to right, top to bottom...this wall needs an entire makeover. Simplest thing to do is to make the raised hearth go away with built ins on either side, then cladding with stone or drywall(the FP). The niche needs to go. Have a good finish carpenter take a look to see what must be done to achieve your desired look, but in all probability, the FP needs to stay where it is...but a good FP co. Can clarify that.

But the hearth can probably be done away with since you're replacing the floor.

I am wondering if you might want to cover up the TV niche also along with the niche over the fireplace........you will be limited to the size of TV you can have that will fit in that niche. I would close both niches and run the hearth over to the under the window. Then you could set your TV (whatever size) on the hearth in front of the wall where the niche is now or even put the TV on another wall..

I hate niches--almost all of them. Dry wall over both of them and then you can do whatever you want just like a normal wall.

Paint the fireplace if you don't like the brick or you could reface it. Since you'll be working on floors--now's the time. How would this look going all the way to the ceiling--bonus one niche disappears and maybe the hearth.
