Deck railings???

Getting to the end of the building of our ocean side coastal home! So excited! Landscaping still to be done and also deck rails! Would love to use horizontal cables but they will not pass building codes in our area. Wondering about white or black spindles with wooden rails or all white rail system? Need help with this final decision!! :)

I think white rails and balustrades would look very pretty, picking up on your white trim which looks amazing against the blue/gray. If all that white would bother you too much, then consider white rails and black metal balustrades. We did that in our back deck and can say from my experience the balustrades kind of "disappear" and minimally affect the view. It's hard for me to imagine glass on your home. Style-wide it would seem a bit too modern/metropolitan, and besides that, the dirty glass would drive me nuts.

Beautiful house! Have you considered airline cable (I believe it is stainless steel) - it looks really nice and is very thin.

What about the clear panels so you don't block view?

Thanks! Unfortunately cable systems do not pass our building code. Would have loved that look. :(

I am thinking glass panels but not sure they will stand up to the wind, have had neighbours lose their panels! We are in Nova Scotia, brutal winters with strong off shore winds.

Hurricane rated glass? I have no idea on the price, but I saw a brief mention about it on the news the other night. It's supposed to be able to stand up to gale force winds.

This is the side facing the ocean, we actually ended up putting stairs off the deck in the peak area so there was no need for rails. Wish we could do that all around!!

I think all white would fit the style of your house the best. Even a cable system would look oddly modern to me here, on a traditional style of beach house.

Do you have to have railing to pass code? If not I would leave it without. P.S. It's a gorgeous home. Congratulations on finishing it. Enjoy it.

Wow your house is beautiful! You must be so proud of it. Our house (also beachfront) is along similar lines. We installed powder coated aluminium balustrade. We previously had stain less steel frame with glass inserts. Was very difficult to keep looking clean because of the constant sea grime on it and even though it was marine grade stainless, it still marked over time.

I just saw a new system that requires no railing or posts for a glass system just these really cool supports on the deck it would be awesome in this application
