Help - yucca....corn plant???

I have (what I thought was) a yucca plant/tree....or is it a corn plant? I have had it for about 4-5 years - it has always done well. Until recently. I noticed that one of the stalks was suddenly losing a "branch".....after a month or so, it completely lost any growth that was on it. Now, only one side is doing well. BUT, the side that lost any growth, has a new "pup" at the base (I don't think it's on the stalk - can't tell). Do I leave the stalk or do I take it out of the pot and remove the stalk that seem as it is slowly starting to shrivel? I have this plant in my kitchen where the sun comes in from morning until sunset....it's across from the windows.

The stalk on the right has lost the growth - on the left and right sides....but as you can see, there is a newer sprout on the other side of this stalk, but it's not ON the stalk.
