Two years ago I grew dahlias from seed. The seed was from Swallow tail seeds, the "Sunny Reggae" Mix. I got a nice bunch of floriferous plants 18" high that were great at the front of a bed. They produced decent tubers, and last year the tubers sprouted and the plants were great. I lifted them last year and this spring I thought that they all sprouted fine.

Except now they are blooming and they are all white, singles. Still the same height. They are a pretty flower, but I miss the sunny colors. I have also grown Bambino, a white dwarf single, in the past, but it was never very vigorous, and didn't produce a ton of tubers. It's possible that the 6 tubers and plants that I thought were reggae were actually bambino and I mislabeled them all, but I wanted to check whether it is possible for tubers to change flower color.

Anyone have any thoughts, or failing that, a fool proof labeling system? I've tried writing on the tubers themselves, but often I can't make out was written once the tubers dry out and shrivel a bit.
