Your browns and blues need to be pulled together or changed. The brown curtains and wood night stands suggest a warm woodsy feel. The blue plaid cover is a cool color so you need to incorparate some brown into your bedding. Maybe a brown or beige bed skirt. Mix in a few brown throw pillows. Lastly and most important add some pictures. Large wood framed woodsy pictures. Bare walls are not warm or inviting they lack character. Remember its your room. Do what you like!

I have a habit of pulling things from one room to another. If you have a taller lamp, I would try that on the bed side table. Also a large picture or picture grouping on either side of the bed will help. You could even put up a shelf and arrange pictures on and around it. Use the search box at the top of this page - put in picture shelf, bedside table, even bed with window and get tons of ideas.

Sally, since your room is small, cozy will happen easier with a dark wall color, and the navy idea was pretty inspired. Definitely lose the black. A high gloss navy on your walls would transform the space in really great ways. A dark color will actually make a small room feel expensive and cozy - and navy feels crisp and clean against silver, gray, white (entry door / closet door). Might as well build on something designers already worked out - with your flooring, pair that navy with dove gray - buy four panels of velvet drapery and let that be your headboard. West elm has those now and if you layer the grommets and widen your rod on the wall about 1' then they will sit all the way open to give your room more light when you are not sleeping.

Layer the bed for the best results - navy bedskirt and euro shams, white duvet cover, white and pale gray sheets and shams, blue and white accent pillows. Layer a gray quilt folded down at the foot of the bed. A layered bed is going to be your most important cozy aspect - that and texture (thus the recommendations for dark walls, velvet drapes)

You need larger lamps for the scale of your bedside tables - home goods is a good source for a matched pair - gray, silver, white ceramic. Drum shades. Coordinating art over each bedside table - tall portrait art - 18 x 24 min in silver frames. Then on the side wall, crop in close and print family candid photos in black and white and frame them in white to make a gallery. Put some romantic memento in a white shadowbox. Hang a family initial in white to go in the grouping - buy a gallery wall template or make your own with newsprint.

If you keep the bed in front of the windows, use drapery to cover the window and extend the headboard. Take the curtains to the outside of the window (at least the width of the be) and to the ceiling. I would paint the walls a gray with a hint of blue to it. Introduce a 3rd color- soft gold/yellow. Also, bring in a smaller print- a floral or stripe. You need some pillows for the bed to add some luxury. Add some personal decor- I love these lamps....you may not, but just giving examples. Or art work that you love.

Easier to find the perfect paint color after you build the rest - a low headboard is a great solution.

kelly, I love the window treatment and the low headboard! Sally, you could easily make a headboard like that. Search on the internet for ideas. An upholstered one is very easy if you have basic skills with a staple gun! Since you said the duvet cover and drapes can be replaced, what color would YOU like? What colors make you feel warm and cozy? After all, all that you are working with so far is the wood color of the nightstands.

Larger lamps with color in the shades. Keep the headboard low. Cover the box spring. Widen the drapery.

You love your family, I can see. Enlarge some of your favorite pictures of them and group them on the largest wall.

If you want privacy even when the drapes are open, add sheers under the drapes. Drapes always look richer when they are fuller.

Warm and cozy calls for warm colors. Your wood is warm. Warm up your walls with a buttery yellow.

Ceiling fan with lighting that has a dimmer switch! Mood setting, for sure. Basket for your books to sit in. Fresh flowers.

Add 2 large mirrors behind the night stands. Lamps need to be larger. Group pictures to make larger collage.

Using brown? Yes, I do. That is what you are looking to do. Correct? If you could find a nice bedspread or duvet with some of that brown in it, and choose another color from it for your walls, you would have a starting point. Kind of like planning accent colors from a painting.

I am late to the brown and blue thing that was going on for people, but I do think some shades of blue go nicely with brown. Like a robins egg blue that isn't too wimpy, lol.

I think you should start with the bedding and go from there. Find something that works with the chocolate if that's what you want. (I am assuming you want to use the drapes that are up already?? Get wider drapery poles and move them out past the window like the example kelly posted and find some sheers for the middle. You may need some blinds or shades if the room isn't dark enough for you at night though.

Have you thought about making a low headboard?

If you want to keep the mirror doors because you actually use the mirror, why not trim them out with moulding like an actual door then? That would be an easy solution. Paint the trim like the rest of the room.

I think that will be very pretty and work for your space. I am sure some other people will help you with colors once you have picked out what else you will be using for bedding. Wall color will really make the room change into something special.

Love the bed in front of the window. When you do great window treatments, it seems to surround the bed and will give that warm, cozy and inviting feeling for which you are looking. Make your windows special.

Looks a lot better, just need to get some color back in there. How about mid-tone lilac walls, and some decorative pillows and/or a throw pulling in purple and lilac and gray and white, along with a secondary accent in smaller amounts of yellow, orange, or green?

It looks great! You could also push ed panels all the way to the ends and put something light in the middle and leave it that way. Then it would appear that the drapes are always open.

Like Kelly's Lamps and pillows great ideas - Your lamps are way too small. And gray has a way of absorbing light so you need to add either artificial light, or white/light balancing colors in pillows/open windows/[pictures/lamp shades or bases
