I would paint the wall behind the sofa as an accent wall! I would go a pretty sage green that goes with the leaves in the fabric. I agree that you need a larger rug so that the front legs of your furniture are on the rug. If you do not want to replace the art above the sofa, add two more pieces of art that flank the painting.

I agree with Bev's color suggestion..perfect. I would take it a step further and paint the entire open space in the sage green.
