Designer's Own Bathroom

last modified: 10 years ago

After creating wonderful bathroom spaces for so many clients, I finally had the opportunity to oversee a facelift on my own tired bathroom. Budget allowed for new floor tiles, wall tiles, paint, artwork and light fixture. That's it that's all!

I fell in love with these graphic vintage-inspired charcoal and white floor tiles and built the space from there. Simple white subway tiles with dark charcoal grout are in keeping with the old Paris look and don't compete with the floor. I found the photos on the Internet and had them printed at the local Staples and framed them in gold to create a bit of glamour and contrast.

We still have our old sink, toilet and tub but my 16 year old daughter and I thrilled to share our new space inspired by our love for vintage fashion and 1920s Paris.

I like what you've done, the tile choices were perfect. I'm in love with grey , and my newest love is gold accents with grey! So glam!

Did you get permission from the original photographer? Because if you didn't by showing it here framed up, you're possibly in copyright violation. The only exception would be if they are out of copyright and in the public domain.

Thanks, Alex. Shower curtain was purchased a couple of years ago and I honestly can't remember where. Sorry. If I ever see anything like it I will definitely let you know!

Thank you cpartist for your comment about the copyright. These photos are from the 1920s-40s and so will just have to take my chances!

Alex - I looked at the label on shower curtain and was able to find it online for you (I know I didn't buy it at Target but they carry it!)

Rebecca, you have such lovely taste. My only comment is about the light fixture, I would have turned it around the other way so light shines down. I seem to have a thing with light fixtures, which way they go. lol

Thank you Angel 18432. I wasn't sure myself which way I preferred. I like the look of it up but you might be right about getting better light down. The other pro for up is this bathroom has a 19 foot ceiling and the light up draws your eye up. But I know what you mean and I too often turn fixtures the other way! Might do this down the road. Thanks for your kind words.

wow! this looks amazing, especially those floor tiles. I find the mirror frame quite plain...I think it may be from before? I think the mirror could be fancier but other than that, well done!

@wmacvinne - you have a good eye! Thank you for your comments. The mirror is from before and doesn't show well in the photos - it is actually a very nice one - however my plan was to give it a new coat of black glossy paint this weekend!
