Am I too late?

We just moved into our new house this month. I'm in zone 9 in the SF Bay Area. Am I too late for a garden? We are working on building our planter boxes so I wouldn't even be able to plant for at least 2 weeks. I'm a novice gardener. Help! Do I just wait for fall crops??

another question - I only have a small space - can I plant summer crops and winter crops in the same planter box? Obviously not at the same time. Sorry if these are silly questions!

If you're planting vegetables, there is almost always something you can plant in a particular month. This chart is for Southern Ca., but I don't think it would vary that much where you live. Green beans are super easy to grow, and you can plant a tomato if you get one that's already started - like a 4 in. pot. It depends on what you like to eat, as well. Yes, you can plant continually in the same box as long as you add fertilizer. Check out Square Foot Gardening for ideas about growing veggies in a small space.

I always try things and never worry about what I am supposed to do. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but that is how you learn. Good luck and Happy Gardening!

We just planted a raised bed about 9 days ago. The okra, crowder peas, watermelon, radishes, and pumpkins have sprouted.

I'm in zone 9 also and plan to plant afew more things this summer. So go for it. Make sure the soil you put in the beds is planting mix for vegetables
