Wow. After your installation, now you are asking? Best advice I can give is talk to your marble representative. There is also information online. Your bathrooms must be gorgeous!

Reno is complete in a week. We did quite a bit of research beforehand, hence my asking, but we'd like to heard advice from those who have used marble in their own baths.

No need for the snark, which seems disappointingly prevalent on this forum.

Reality of marble. It is what is its, and what you have chosen.

I have a bathroom with tons of marble and marble countertops.

My installers sealed everything when they installed-if they don't do it automatically, you may want to ask them to do it the first time while they are there.

They recommended Dupont Stone Tech products. I have an everyday cleaner, a stronger mold and mildew cleaners for the shower and a sealer to use once a year.

I have honed marble as well and can't see any etching yet. I think a lot has to do with lighting and angles-you have to hit just the right spot to see etching on honed marble.

We had a master bath with tons of calcutta marble (polished). Was installed when house was built 50 years prior. Non-acidic cleaners only. Plenty of options available now for marble cleaning. We used Miracle Sealants sealer annually. There is one for honed marble called "Porous Plus". In our case we never used the stronger mold and mildew cleaners as they could impact polished finish (but then, ours was polished). Loved our glam marble!

Thanks, you two! We have honed mosaic on one bathroom floor and honed mosaic and 3x6 tiles for the floor/shower in the master.

I'm worried about staining, but I know the marble will patina a bit over time. I've seen some horrible iron stains in showers. So, we will just seal regularly.

Any trouble with beauty products? Do you change your shampoo/soap because of the marble?

I actually had a separate "hers" dressing room with vanity ( marble top), and I was only careful with nail polish remover. As for personal products in shower. No adjustments made there. Just used our favorite brands.

Search for Dupont products. Best sealers and care for your stone.
Would use Dupont's Impregnator Pro series to seal your stone. The pro series is solvent based and will help repel oils in your soaps and skin. Solvent based will last 5-7 yrs vs water based that usually lasts 1-3 yrs. A little more expensive but well worth it in the long run. Dupont also carries a bunch of products that can be used on your natural stone to clean and will not hurt the sealer.

It outperforms Miracle (shown in the brochure) and also Dupont (not pictured, but we have tested). It's what we use for all of our installations, we won't use any other after testing them all!

Thanks, all. This info is very helpful. We'll get one of these recommended sealers and have our contractors do the initial seal. Then, we'll follow-up regularly.

I'm also going to get some of the Dupont cleaning products.

Don't use any product with lemon or vinegar which will cause etching or stains. Be careful with most products like hair spray, nail polish, liquid soap, etc. Marble is a favorite look and I love it but....it is what it is. It can be a mess in a bathroom.
