Anything but yellows & beiges. Yes to blues, greens and pure grays.

Chances are the floors are not stained but that the finish has ambered over time. In general, natural oak floors are very versatile - I see them in homes ranging from a over a hundred years ago to new builds. The colors mentioned above are good. The floors do work well with light creamy beige too, especially if the trim is white as pictured. They present color is just a little dark - it would have been considered quite "in" ten years ago when I saw dark colors in most Parade Homes. Dark grays which can be very "cool" and "warm" oak are an acquired taste - very "in" right now but too colorless and dark for where I live.

It partially depends on whether you would like to accentuate or downplay the wood tones in the floor. Blue will make the gold tones appear more gold since it is on the opposite side of the color wheel. Green will make what appear to be some cherry tones more red.

Bev thanks for the confirmation of what my son said. I personally cannot see the tones. I do not like cool colours, presently I have BM white down and natural linen. I picked out Edgecomb gray and revere pewter as well. But now think I am on the wrong track.
My son suggested gray owl, titanium colours along that line? My furniture, dining, living and master bed are all dark wood, maghogany.

Elle, I thought the gold colours would reflex off the floors and make the rooms look even more gold?

It depends on what style you prefer. from your pictures the house looks a bit craftsman or rustic, so burgandie, olive green ,some darker blues used sparingly, maybe mustard yellow. if you want to play down those rustic of craftsman elements that think bright whites and maybe pastels and maybe painting the moulding.

I just looked at Gray Owl and it does have a greenish cast to it and it should work. I would purchase a paint sample first and apply a good sized sample on one or two walls so that you can see it in all kinds of light. It's the only way I buy paint for my house and it saves me a lot of time, expense, and aggravation!

I have golden oak floors everywhere in my house. There were gray walls in the living and dining rooms, but they looked drab and a bit sickly with the floor. I opted for Pittsburgh paint 'dusty yellow' in the dining room - yes it is yellow, but I put a chair rail wainscot and painted below in white. I have a chandelier and the lighting on the walls in the evening is beautiful. I have mahogany furniture. I have had more compliments on this room than I can count - one from a designer.

I have also used BM carrington beige which I think would work well in your living room. Paint your crown molding white! I had the same as your picture and the difference with white is remarkable. The dark lowers the ceiling, makes the room smaller and also much too rustic.
