I LOVE your lily, Jali! LOVE it! (Barb got me started on lilies!) Can you smell it when you just walk out of the door?

I have a pink Chinese lily, just past the top of the 6' privacy fence. Has four stems this year! A couple nites ago the neighbor CAT broke off (again!) one of the stems! Twenty five percent of my lily--that I've been waiting a year to see--GONE, by one "uncontrolled" cat jumping back over the fence from my yard (which it uses as a litter box and to catch and kill birds) into its own yard! It didn't break off completely, and I "stood it back up again" and tied it to a stake, but I'll be really, really surprised if it survives well enough to see flowers on it! I wonder if the neighbor would think it was funny if I went and cut down 25% of the flowers she has in her front yard???

I think maybe I can smell yours all the way over here!

That lily is amazing, jaliranchr. I too have been paranoid about the hail hitting mine all spring, but I *think* I'm in the safe zone at this point. Every year I lose a few (or all) of the buds, and this year we're A-OK.

I wish I kept better track of the lilies I've planted. Lankon is the only one I remember, and it didn't' really grow this year, though I had impressive displays the previous two summers.

I'll be in Europe the first 17 days of July, and I'm hoping I don't miss too much! Most of my lilies are a week, or perhaps two from opening, I believe.

Thanks Skybird and Mathewgg. It became the May/June obsession instead of my usual one. LOL Yes, it has a wonderful scent, stronger than usual because there are so *MANY* trumpets, this year. The number of cars driving past the house to look has been funny, and rewarding. But, of course, I chose this year to take some lawn out for a big perennial bed in front, so it looks pretty rough in front of the lily since I haven't got all the mulch down yet.

I hope your lily survives the cat attack, Skybird. I don't blame you for wanting revenge! My problem with the ferals around here is usually a present on my shoe after the morning trip into the tomato patch.

Ok, Pollyanna checking in here with a wee silver lining and possibly unicorns....my cats are strictly indoor only, both for their well-being and that of the local bird population, but I must say when I see one of the local felines trot by with a mouse I cheer them on. Now if they could just chase a few deer.......
