I have painted a couple small bathrooms in dark colors. That is a myth that the room will feel smaller. If anything it makes the room more dramatic;)

Love the butterflies; is that the inspiration for the room.....if you want rose find the three that you like then go up two or three shades lighter on the paint chip (the color will reflect on all the other walls and intensify the colors and no window will darken the room substantially) and buy samples and then paint the walls in a one foot area. See which one you love the best....and try and make sure the paint color makes you skin look wonderful.

I would suggest white vs. gray cabinets with pink walls.

I'd consider a lighter pink, pale as the inside of a shell, even lighter. Or paint bathroom white and introduce the pink in towels and/or artwork. With a pale pink a white or gray cabinet will look beautiful

You can say that it is a rule that if you have small rooms then you should paint your room with lighter color because it gives the look of the wider room. Using of wall shelves is also a good idea. In the small bathroom, you have not too much space to arrange the things then using of shelves and cabinets are very good approach because it not only increase the storage capacity but also creates an eye-catching look to your bathroom.

I'm assuming that at this stage that your resources are stretched. To give you the most versatility I'd go for a light blush colour - because you can then pick up the colours you love in your soft furnishings such as towels but aren't stuck with one particular look - the deeper rose colour, white or black towels can change the look of the room drastically, quickly and cheaply. I'd also paint the ceiling a warm but clear white (get paint with microban in it to help avoid any mould issues). The lighter colours on the wall and ceiling will help bounce light around your room. Paint your vanity to match your walls as well as the back of your door. You could also change your vanity knobs and door handles to make a big difference.

To make your small room look bigger and brighter use mirrors at the back of shelving/back of the bathroom door as it'll trick the eye and bounce light back. Good luck and enjoy making your home.

Today looking at grover's post, and the white vanity, now I wish for a stronger paint, say on the shelves, etc... maybe even from a few hues over on the paint wheel/fan.

thanks everyone for all the great advice! I'm going to check out paint colors today and maybe get some painting done by the end of the weekend. I think that and some shelves will be a good first step!
