    Why two doors??

So the thought was to have 2 doors and leave them open most of the time to let light into the upstairs hallway. What we ended up deciding to do was to add a couple solatubes to the hallway to let natural light in, so now the 2 doors seems silly. It was always putting in dead space, which I never really felt comfortable with. Do if we go down to one door, how should we lay it out?

    Why so much punctuation?!?!

    to let in light!!

    ;)

Now that we've solved the the hallway light issues you do bring up a very valid point. We can save a little money and go down to 1 window and have more useable space in that room. So with that in mind, what are you thinking for layout?

Will you have the door in the middle and have a counter opposite the machines for folding, and baskets below for sorting? Cabinets above for cleaning supplies? A space for broom, Swiffer, mop and bucket?

The dryer will be on the outside wall, yes?

(You didn't ask, but here goes: it really bugs me to come up our stairs and the kids' bathroom is right in front of my face. It stays tidy, but still... So, I wonder if you flipped your hall bath, the door would be more above the OTHER side of the stairs. Would that work for you?)

(The other thing you didn't ask: would your kids want to substitute two sinks for more counterspace and and more storage below? Mine would. They never, ever use the sink closest to the door, and it just gets dusty. Meanwhile, they could use two banks of drawers instead of one, and more space on top.)

I like to hang clothes that are meant to hang right as I take them out of the dryer (or washer if they air dry). If you do as well, you'll want a place for that in your room.

@bpathome, yes to all those storage questions. And yes to the hanging. But I don't know where to start.

As as for the 2 sinks, my wife is pretty adamant about wanting 2 sinks in the hall bath. I've never heard anyone say they really like a fully utilize both sinks but it was a firm want on her side so we're going with 2.

Heres some one pictures of laundry rooms I like.

I do want to make sure there's hanging space above the sink, and on the opposite wall.

What else will you use the laundry room for? Is there much ironing to do? A steamer? If so, is it a floor or hand-held model? Is there where you all will do "repairs" like gluing, re-assembly, that kind of thing? Crafts? Will pet grooming happen here?

You'll have mor usable space if you line the side walls, like a galley kitchen, rather than a U shape. It will also be easier to service the machines, clean behind, clean the dryer duct. Imagine them in the U, you pull one out. Where are you standing? How do you get behind it? And the corne storage has pretty much gone to waste unless you get super-Susan's or something, and that's kind of a waste in a laundry. A galley gives you working floor space for those occasions (like the day you get home from vacation) when you have 3 piles of laundry on the floor.

Love the idea of a frosted glass pocket door!

How low are the Windows? My laundry room is a little like yours (not as big) and I intend to put a deep counter in front of my two windows for folding. Under the counter I will have room for one of Mrs. Pete's laundry carts.

definitely one door. That will give you more room.

Now that I have cataracts, I really need lots of natural light to see stains in the laundry. For some reason, artificial light, no matter what type or how bright, doesn't work.

In any case, why shouldn't work rooms be bright? That's where we spend a good bit of the day, after all.

I like the frosted pocket door. I'll have to think about how that would look from the hallway, we'll have wainscotting throughout the hallway.

As far as what else we will be using it for, there will be no pet grooming in there, although there will probably be pet lounging.

The window is set to be low, like a bedroom, for now. I should raise that up a bit, like in the first or third picture.

You all have been most helpful. thank you for the feedback, my laundry room will be better because of it!
