i could see clear acrylic chairs and a wood table.

what about wall paper on that funky wall by dining room.

The table and chairs that you have fit in okay and are kind of fun. The light fixture is where I would concentrate my attentions first.

I would not demo the wall where you now have the mirror, but I would paint it dark and put some light colored art on it . .. I see you have pink and some purple in the room - you might select a very deep eggplant . . something like bm wenge ..

Can we have a close up of the mantel? Not sure the tile surround and mantel do all they can for you . . .

Love your space so far. I see you have a tree outside your windows, so light may be an issue, especially on cloudy days. I'd add a larger mirror, less frame by your table. I'd add a larger colorful art piece above the couch (where you have another mirror now). If you want a whole different vibe, consider a glass table rather than the white one you have now. If it's not in your plans to change your table, add some color to that area just for interest. I'd also add a table lamp on the round table behind your couch. Something colorful that ties into your artwork.

thank you - the current table is actually a work desk only 25" deep x 96" long. I am kinda digging the white top especially with children. I do love the wooden table with clear chairs but need something more comfortable.

We are at a loss for the fireplace. There was a tile surround that we removed and was hoping to salvage the brick underneath but it appears to have concrete on it and we have been chipping away for 9 months. Time to make a decision. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. We have toyed with removing the mantel and having a modern solid look or keeping mantel and doing a slate surround to tie in entryway.

Coe - I think a more modern mantel and firebox surround would suit better- the mantel trim at the corners is too ornate for your house . . I would tear that off and use some stone tile up the wall itself as your inspiration photo . . but you can have a contemporary surround and retain a mantel if you decide to do that - you can do it with slab stone cut and picture framed with a waterfall cap like this . .
