Let's start with: What YOU don't like about the room?

Why is the room so dark? First fix the lighting so we can see the room properly.

Can you post pictures with the snapshot of the view. I would remove the blinds or whatever is making it look like a dungeon.

Maybe I'll repost when I take pictures with the open shades. It does get lighter, but the terrible yellow and lighting make it darker. The floors are bad too, but I can't figure out what color scheme. Do you whitewash all the brick, do lighter walls, and then maybe a gray flooring??

I love the brick:) I would put in a lighter floor and lighter furniture; maybe darker tables so the brick isn't the only dark.

i suspect that if you live with it awhile, you will notice how much cooler it is not being so bright and having a whole wall of ventilation.

I like the brick, and I even kind of like the floor. Just not that MUCH of each. First things that come to mind to tone both down are some judicious whitewashing (def. the pillars) and a series of light, coordinating rugs to cover much of the floor. Lighter toned artwork could also help "cut" the brick, as would new, light window treatments. There is certainly potential in this room, and I hope you'll share pictures as the update progresses.

Personally, I LOVE the floor. But the brick, not so much. I would paint the walls an off white color, and then also paint the bricks as well--either a very light grey. or a cream.
