if you don't have any conflicting art in the space, then the pattern gives more "pop". If you have a piece of art that "wows" , then I would stick with the blue and add more pop in the pillows and accessories.

Although the photo doesn't show the colors well, I think it looks like solid cream or light beige may be a better option than either of those pictured assuming the sofa is brown. The solid shown seems to conflict a little with the sofa color and the patterned one seems a little busy. I would suggest saving pattern for the sofa throw pillows to visually break up the sofa's solid color.

Which go better with your furniture? Will you replace any of it soon? I'd take that into account.

Since you asked, I prefer the simpler ones. It gives more options, in my opinion.

Thanks for everyone's input! The couch is gray..I think in the daytime the blue conflicts with it..at night you can can see the contrast more but in the day it almost looks like they are too close in color but don't match if that makes any sense.

i am thinking that you are saying that you want a light blue with it. i feel the couch is a little too dark for that. i feel as the light pillows do now, they would sort of just look like giant holes, so you have to use richer colors.

It's hard to judge here because your lighting is making everything look brown, but I agree that you either need richer colors, or you could go with a monochromatic scheme. I think the patterned curtains are too busy AND too mousy for the sofa and rug.

Posting another photo better showing the room's true colors would help since the sofa appears brown vs. gray.

The printed curtains are not too busy. You don't have any other printed fabrics in the room. I think they brighten up the space and have more visual interest than the solid blue. If you want to bring more blue into the room, you can add either solid or printed blue pillows to the sofa.

I like printed curtains, in my opinion geometrics work best, but in this case that printed curtain looks too dainty of a pattern next to that gigantic sectional. That is the mismatch to me there. I also never understand when people bring in one random color, like in this case blue. Based on what you already have, you're better off sticking with neutral colors and adding interest with pattern and texture that MATCHES the strength and space of the room ... adding blue makes no sense here. Again, in my opinion.

If you're going for a pattern, I'd go with a more geometric pattern, which your rug appears to be.

It's the backlighting from the window, not the iPad, that's making the room look dark.

Consider choosing the blue color in your drapery to add a pop of color in your room. It will complement your sofa and draperies with the contrast.
For pillows, find some textures-solid colors which are shown in your draperies. This will brighten your sofa and add a repeat of colors already in the room.

Love the pattern on drapes and it will not detract from patterns on pillows, throws or wall color.

Model homes typically have a splash of the same colors repeating throughout a home.

Thanks..the walls are revere pewter and were just recently painted so I do not envision painting anytime soon. This is a new house for us and we are starting fresh and I am overwhelmed since I am terrible at decorating!

Would these in gray be better? I am so indecisive!! What would i do for pillows? I think I am so plain/ neutral usually and thats why I wanted to bring in color..there is a formal living room attached so if I stay neutral in this room I can bring color in the formal living room which is a playroom/office for now.

No, to the white. I like the teal more plain drape. They are beautiful and classic. And find deep bright teal pillows. Really pretty. I like what Grover did in last photo.

Seen from across the room, there's not enough blue in your patterned drapes to make a difference. They simply look like they're the color of the sofa plus white. The blue curtains add way more life to the room.

I really like the pattern you chose. I think it gives a nice accent to the rest of the space. It's definitely not too busy and gives the space a little bit more of a personality. I think adding some bright pillows to compliment the same accent would be great too!

are you not liking grover's combo? and so not my pillow combo? i have another paler one, but i am concerned of it not showing up. a little guidance would really help. let me know i will be glad to remove what you do not like.

I would suggest keeping the wall color, adding solid off-white/cream curtains, and adding other color and pattern in the sofa's throw pillows.

Thanks I like this combo better. I am usually not very bold in decorating so I tend to choose a more subtle decor.

I agree that subtle decor will work well, especially because there are a lot of elements in a relatively small space so it would be nice if it did not become too busy.

Keep the pattern, but take the drapes higher and wider. At the moment, they're overwhelmed by the mass of the sofa.

Paint not a necessity but the pillow suggestions will add a lot of interest to your room and keeping in mind this color palette throughout your house will keep your home looking intentionally decorated by a designer. Your result will be a home which has your own color palette. Good luck with all the choices and suggestions.
