Omega kitchen cabinets

Anyone own Omega kitchen cabinets? I love the color and finish ( pearl, brookside door), but they are very pricy. I am looking for input or reviews on the quality and how well they stand up. All of the previous reviews seem to be a few years old. It's a lot of money if they don't stand up well. Thank you!

Omega is a very good product--they have several lines. I have their Dynasty line in my home, painted "Oyster" color. It has held up well, but keep in mind that painted cabinets are not as durable as stained.

Omega is furniture quality cabinetry, very well made and yes very pricey. A while back we did a small home office renovation and we used Omega cabinetry, it was 3 upper cabinets with 2 base cabinets and the choice of finish was distressed look, the price was almost 10k.

You can also try cabinetry by CrownPoint , they also make good quality cabinetry in comparison to Omega.

On the general note, there is a few less expensive cabinet manufacturers, who offer Premium line of their cabinetry with all the bells and whistles and the quality is very good...

Thank you Diana. How long have you had your cabinets?
Thank you GN Builders. I will take a look. I must say I do love the Omega. The only other line that is offered where I am looking is Homecrest. I am guessing it's less expensive, but I am not sure of the quality. Any input to that is appreciated.

I have had the cabinets for 4 years in our vacation home. On the one hand, we don't use the home on a regular basis, but when we do, there are lots of guests. Also we rent it for about a month each summer, and have no control over how our tenants treat it. They still look none the worse for wear!

Thanks Diana, that is really good to know. There are no children here and we take really good care of our things, so that gives me hope for the painted finish!
One more question Diana, if you don't mind...What made you decide on the Omega to begin with? As a professional in the business, I am sure you had a wide array available to you.

Comparing Homecrest and Omega is like comparing Mercedes E class sedan with a Honda Fit. They aren't even in the same category, despite both being cars.

Omega, or Dynasty by Omega, are true custom, or a high mid grade semi custom. Not entry level economy. Dynasty should be more than 2x as expensive. And worth every penny. Just their joinery alone is worth the extra $$. Not to mention their superior finishes.

Wow, good example Sophie. Thanks for the input. I was thinking along those lines, but I have no experience with either cabinets. The reviews on the Homecrest lead me to believe that they are perhaps slightly better than "builder grade " (no offense to all the builders :) ).

We had Omega Dynasty cabinets in oyster in our previous house for about seven years. We had to replace some of the cabinet doors and drawer fronts after a few years because they would chip in the corners and we really had to baby them. When we built the kitchen in our current home, we used William Ohs cabinets, even though they were more expensive, because we were really unhappy with the finish issues we had with the Omega's. However, I think they would've been great if they were in a stained finish rather than painted.

Bliss, thank you for your input and honesty. Did omega honor the warranty?

Yes, they did honor the warranty. When we sold that home, the new owners also had to replace a drawer front and two cabinet doors after a few months and they only lived there for one year, crazy!

ugh...not what I want to hear. I'm starting to think that that all have issues and you just hope for the best!

I think you're right. It may just be the unfortunate reality of having a painted finish. I will say that I love the oyster color from Omega Dynasty. We've only had our new William Ohs painted cabinets for a year, but so far we've had no issues.

Wishing you good luck with them!

We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and it has been such a long and frustrating one, due to the poor quality of the Omega cabinets. I posted photos of some of the cabinets but almost every single cabinet had some kind of defect. The Omega rep was rude when we asked for replacements. The replacement pieces arrived 3 weeks later with no quality control or inspection either as some of those were also defective. We've been out of a kitchen for about 3 months now and we are just fed up! I do not recommend Omega cabinets at all.

Oh no!! 3 months is a long time to not have a kitchen. Has the sales rep that you purchased from been of any help, or are you on your own with Omega?

The KD is helpful in placing the replacement orders but at the end of the day, if the cabinets arrive with streaks and chips, there isn't much she can do except order yet another replacement, which takes another 3 weeks to arrive. So a lot of waiting around for cabinets that are not inspected prior to shipment. It's been such a frustrating experience.

So sorry to hear that. I actually ended up ordering the Omega in Pure White. They are beautiful, assuming that they don't arrive with defects. Mine are scheduled for delivery on Friday. Fingers crossed....

I happened on this post a few years ago. Caroline’s problem was much worse than mine, but it was still the same issue. Once I became part of this conversation, I got more attention from the company. Two years later, it was resolved, Masterbrand replaced all of my cabinet doors, drawers and fittings. Two months later…same problem occurred.

Watch for splits in the frame, and on the top of doors, there is a joint which looks like a piece of a puzzle. If that separates, the whole door is impacted.

Rude? The first visit from the rep…he blamed my housekeeping; whoops, house is immaculate. Okay (how is this one?) you must open the dishwasher when it is running and the steam made the paint crack: okay…you live in an area that has lots of humidity, What about my central air and humidity control, I asked? His answer, it must be a subpar unit. The guy was so full of himself and arrogant. Now, not to be off-side here, my house was new…over a million dollars…well over. Everything in the house was exactly as it should be for our climate.

Honestly? I wanted to slap him silly.

I was Judianna in the convo.

mollym440 After reading this post, wondering if you are pleased with your cabinets. I am about to order Omega and would like your opinion. Thank you

I happened to be "over here" as I posted a question. I used Omega cabinets in my Master bathroom, well, it was a long time ago. We had absolutely no problem with them. And we had so much steam in that bathroom it used set off the smoke-alarm! You never know, perhaps the mfg processing changed (did it go out of country?) Perhaps the finish wasn't allowed in your state?(mine, CA) If you'd asked me, before I'd read all these negative remarks, even after, I'd still give them 5 stars. (In fact, ;-) I'm going to ask my husband tonight, you know for the ultimate unbiased opinion, what he thought of the cabinets.
@JudyGDesigns I hate guys like that, when there's a problem? They "try" to push back on you, lol, Your housekeeping, that's hilarious, AC, opening the dishwasher? Next time something goes wrong in MY house, I'm going to remember these.
I was just reviewing all my comments & posts, and happened to remember that I did ask my husband about the Omega Cabinets. Anyway, he gave 'two thumbs up' which for him, is 10/10. By the way, we spent, by sq ft, more on those cabs for our really small Master (same as Guest) Bath as our remodeled Kitchen cabinets. Remodeled earlier same year. Dura Supreme, Raised Panel Over-lay, Natural Maple, what can I say, it was '95. And we had A+ Contractor, used Walker-Zanger yard for stone & tile, tile installer was excellent. Dura Supreme? At least back then? Excellent A+ cabs. Highly Recommend. I loved that kitchen, in SFV. thanks for the memories.

I know this is an old thread and hopefully some of you that had Omega at the time this was posted are still on Houzz and can tell me your current experiences and if you would recommend.

I have had them since 2016. Love them. No problems at all.

Thank you for responding. I take it yours are painted and shaker?

I have had my Omega/Dynasty cabinets since 2009 (I know, this is from another era, but it still feels like my new kitchen) and I have not had any problems at all. I have perimeters with the Oyster finish and the island is stained. Both finishes look new, no scratches, no split corners, all soft-close drawers still function the same as they did when new. They are also easy to wipe clean.

No, not shaker. I forget what they are called but they are white and bump out versus recessed in if that makes sense. They are very traditional.

Thank you both. You've both been a big help with your real life experience with them rather than a salesperson who tells me they are great! I'll be checking them out based on your experience.

    Good luck!

tedbixby: As I said, we did our kitchen in 2009, and some manufacturers can suffer a decline in quality, so what was great in 2009 might be less so in 2021. I believe they are a quality company based on our experience...I hope you have the same good luck that we have had!

Yeah, it's like appliances. The earlier ones lasted forever compared to now a days with all the fancy electronics. Appreciate your time.

Emailed Omega three days ago, at ConsumerCare@masterbrand.com regarding my cracking cabinets that were installed one month ago, and no-one has responded. I will update this post, once I hear back from them. I am crushed over this. (I have plenty more pics, these are the worse ones.)

It looks like the doors have mitered joints that separated because of the moisture. Who did you buy the cabinets from? If you got them through a contractor he will get someone out there from a distributor and get you new doors.

If you got them from a showroom and they provided an installer or you got your own installer, go to the place you got the cabinet from, they will do the same.

The last picture with a handle installer drilled right through the joint, you might have some issues because of that but you shouldn't.

    Good luck

Thanks a million! This is helpful... also, the cabinets were delivered 12/1/20, and placed in the room next to my kitchen... then they were installed the first week of January. Wouldn't the month of sitting acclimate the cabinets to my home's environment? It is winter in PA, I keep my thermostat on at 68 during the day, and 65 at night. Not sure if that matters or not.

Hello! I too am in the boat of which cabinet company to choose from. My kitchen layout doesn’t work at all so my husband and I wanted to remodel for this reason. The issue is, who to trust for cabinets? We surely don’t want to pay a small fortune to end up with tons of issues. Is Omega good?

I haven't installed Omega cabinets in a while, but when I use to do high-end installs for a large distributor we installed lots of Omega cabinets, and they always made good quality cabinets, and always were in one of the top-of-the-line selections.

Some of the pictures above have some paint blemishes something could have been missed when the paint was applied that can be easily fixed.

One image with the dimple on the door, that looks like a "nick" and a bad touch-up.

One image looks like damage occurred during shipping or the cabinet was dropped and it split, that should be replaced no questions asked and as the miter-joint separation goes, as I said in a previous post these things happen for various reasons, the doors should have been replaced no questions asked.

That said, today there are so many choices, one can lose its mind with everything that is on the market today,i.e kitchens range from $100-2k per cabinet... the Omega cabinetry is still sold nationwide, and I still think Omega is a good quality kitchen manufacturer because I haven't heard too many bad things about the quality of the cabinetry... Therefore the only thing I can tell you, Brianna, do some more research and see what you can dig up if that's the kitchen manufacturer you want to go with.

I know when needing to making a cabinet manufacturer decision (not to mention cabinet style), it's very easy to become overwhelmed by the number of choices and opinions.

    Good luck.

I'm about to order my Omega cabinets. While I was considering the style of the door the designer pointed out that without proper humidity that those miter-joints will separate especially door fronts that have multiple pieces to it. Painted cabinets it will be more obvious than stained. She even showed me multiple doors and other brands in the showroom that had done that. I have had custom, other comparable brands to higher end brands and I have had that issue with all that have had that miter-joint. I have to say I'm surprised at how fast it happened to yours though. And acclimating them to your environment isn't going to make any difference as it comes down to the humidity level in your home which could slow the process down. Like wood floors that swell and shrink throughout the year you may find that will happen to your cabinets a bit, too. I'm not sure why you aren't going through the dealer you purchased them from. Omega is a 10 week wait now so I don't know how soon you'll get any direct attention from them right now. As they are swamped per my dealer.

Thank you GN Builders. Is the dealer more important than the cabinet company you choose? The company here that sells Omega is rated excellent by so many construction companies, builders, and designers. People have only positive things to say about them and they’ve been in business over 60 years. They only sell MasterBrand cabinet companies, including Omega.

  • PRO

Yes, the dealer and their reputation play a huge role. Some the minute you sign a check and place the order, you will never hear from them again and you " pull your teeth" trying to reach them or address an issue.

Also very important who will be handling you cabinet delievery... do they drop the cabinets on your front lawn or they will bring inside your home and inspect everything.

Most dealers I work with would get the cabinetry directly from the manufacturer to their warehouse and they will handle the delivery in-house. This is the best way IMO because they actualy take good care of the unloading process and how the cabinets will be being handled from there on and 95% of the time the cabinets are in the precfect condition when they arive, the delivery guys will bring them inside, check everything, etc, they take pictures and document any damage if they see a damaged box, etc and the items will be replaced right away.

Some manufacturers hire a shipping company to deliever cabinets to another shipping company (I've seen some use UPS), etc who will deliver to the consumer and you have your entire kitchen packed on the pallets wrapped in plastic and they leave it at the curbside.

You start unpacking this cabinets, and you find all sorts of damage.

Update on my Omega's that were installed January 2021. Omega Rep came to my home to inspect and take pictures, yesterday, 3/25/21. He was very nice, but did not give me the answer I wanted. He noted some cabs did have faulty seams and they could replace the doors, but he also warned that due to the climate and humidity (Pennsylvania), cracking will most likely occur again. I agreed, per his suggestion, to wait until June/July/August and see if humidity will cause any of the cracks to swell and close. $20,000 (does not include rip out or counter tops/includes install) worth of cabinets... I wish my designer/installer would have warned me that miter joints are prone to this. My neighbor had custom cabinets built w/miters and they look as good as the day they were installed three years ago. Video (if I can upload) shows "stickies" where cracking is occurring. Not one door or drawer w/o cracking. Even the inside's are cracking (see pics). *NOTE: Omegas white cabinets are not white up underneath them. Be sure to cap the bottoms or have rail around bottom edge. When seated at table, we can see up underneath cabinets. Looks cheap. Again... wish my designer would have warned me.

*Tip: ask to see price of cabinets separated from the installation labor cost.
