Hi!

We are doing a gut remodel of our 3/2 home We tore out the only existing common closets in our home to create a second bathroom. Our plans for Option 1 have been approved but now I'm having second thoughts if we should go with Option 2 because it creates more storage space in the walk in closet, linen closet and in the master vanity. The main issue I have is walking into a wall when entering the bedroom. I'm trying to visualize it and it seems like it might not feel right? Maybe if we put a full length dimensional print on that wall it might not seem so bad? Will it turn off future buyers to walk into a wall and then have to turn left into the master bedroom. We just added a double french door to the far wall so maybe that will help a small bedroom in Option 2 feel bigger?

We also have pocket doors on either side of the walk through closet. Should we only have one between the closet and bathroom though?

Please let me know if Option 1 or 2 is better. Of if there's other options I haven't thought of.

Thanks!!!

    any takers?

He initially came up with Option 2 and we changed it to Option 1. What would you change to make it more ideal?

I would keep option 1 but add 2' to the master closet. You don't need a larger bathroom, but you do need a larger closet. Your master bedroom in 2 is too small.

    Thanks chartist for your input.

What about the following. But is it weird that the bedroom door opens up to only a 2 foot wide wall and doesn't align with the door.

What about making C an actual rectangle. Then door to master can also slide up and you can gain storage next to washer dryer. And you need doors in front of the clothes in the closet. No one wants to walk through open clothes to get to the bathroom. If that's too tight with the space perhaps consider hanging (with doors) on one side and then drawers/dresser on the other which is shallower.

Thanks meledwards! That's exactly what we plan to do for the walk through closet. That's a good idea for room C. The closet in room C is a built in that's already there. We could make the opening on the inside of the room however it's pretty narrow. It has a 3 foot opening now. Moving inside the room is prob a 2.5 foot wide opening and deep closet.

Can you solve the door issue for Room C by making it an outswing? When open it would then be against the wall with what I assume is some kind of air return / chase.

In your bathroom you might also gain some privacy for the toilet by pushing the shower up towards the closet and then putting the toilet on the shower side. Then you can put the linen closet or cabinet across from the toilet (that could also hold toilet paper for when you realize you're out ;) Would be shallower but the back of a 40" deep linen closet would probably be fairly inaccessible anyway. Would perhaps be less private when using the vanity because of the mirror, but do you generally use the toilet when someone else is in the room anyway?

do you mean like this? i like the only issue is the view out of the bathroom window is towards the left and if we change layout you could only see the view from the toilet. Also the vanity wouldn't get much natural light because of the linen closet. However we have thought about adding a 2x2 skylight.

Yes that's what I meant. Though you could flip the walls too, or put the toilet / linen closet on the close end of the bathroom (which could make sense as that's probably what you need a quick visit to the bath for).
