I like the one at the top of the page best in Indigo. My 2nd choice is the second one down the page in gray. Soft on the feet is nice, but it appears from the photos here that you have a toddler in your life. Given that, I would give serious consideration to a polypropylene type rug, I.e. Indoor / outdoor type rug that can be easily cleaned, unlike wool. There are lots of soft wonderful blankets that you can lay down over it while the toddler is crawling, learning to walk, that would be extra comfortable on the child's feet and then easily thrown into the washing machine as needed. In fact, I would get 2 such plush style large blankets, so that you can rotate them as needed. Your investment dollars will last much longer. Just a thought.... Hopefully Pier One will give you a full credit, or a store credit that can be used on another item now, or later. Good luck!

Update! I went to Pier1 - they were great about it! Apparently they haven't heard of this problem so they are offering either a complete refund or will exchange the carpet for the exact same one. So now I have to decide by tomorrow if I am going to stay with the same or try a different one.

This carpet was my original first choice so I'm back to thinking about it - would it work in my space?

The Harlow area rug is beautiful with sofa, chairs and walls!

Whatever you choose, rethink the size. The rug, in your original pictures, is too big for the space.

Well, after all the comments I've seen on Houzz about area rugs being too small I didn't want to have that thrown at me as well! Unfortunately, the Harlow rug only comes in a 5x8 or 8x11. The current carpet is 8x10. What size of carpet would be ideal then? With the way the furniture is layed out I would need at least 6x6 for the carpet to just go under all the feet. So I'm assuming that a 5x8 is out.

Would it be an idea to get the 8x11 and have it cut down to size? If so, what would the correct size be for my space and would I be looking at hundreds of $$ to do that?

Hi! I have chairs in the similar teal color... I went with a bolder pattern. Here is my space and the rug I have. The one in my photo is 8x10. It's going back for a 9x12 instead. I LOVE how it feels and looks. Plus the price is reasonable that if you change your mind in a few years...it's no huge loss. Happy Hunting!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! The area rug is one thing that I am refusing to buy online but the Harlow is in one of our local department stores so I've been able to see it in person (but it's $1000 more in the store than online!!). It's definitely not the soft feel I'm after but I have also been warned against buying a shag (which I was also considering) because of the upkeep. Kandagr - do you find it difficult to vacuum/clean?

If I went with the Harlow do you have suggestions for accent pillows and fabric patterns for window treatments in my open eating area/kitchen?

Take the refund. Go to pottery barn and look at their Barrett rug. Take home a few sample swatches of that and other rugs u like. Post pics

I think u can order swatch online but then you are stuck returning it. It's a beautiful rug.

Is that a Pier1 carpet? I went through all the rug samples today at the store and didn't find anything else I liked. I think our selection varies as well from Canada to the States.

Pottery Barn will not ship swatches to Canada and the Barrett rug (gorgeous by the way!) is almost $2000 Cdn dollars before shipping, taxes and duty (which can easily add another $500+ to price). Just not in my budget for now!

I'm willing to go up to $1000. The problem I'm having with the Harlow rug is that in Canada at our local store it's $1800! Target.com has it listed for $384 which would run about $550 Cdn. I could order it from Wayfair.ca for $850 after taxes - I'm just not convinced that the quality equals the price!

What about any of these?

I like the third one. Are you open to Wayfair rugs? The Harlow Rug might be too busy for the space.

I just discovered a local carpet store that carries the Lolai rugs - which is what the first and third are of the last ones I posted (I also like the third one!) so I can see real samples.

I'm confused. If the Harlow rug is super expensive at your local store, why can't you buy the Harlow rug online (from Target or wherever you find the cheapest) after you test it out at your local store first?

Sorry for the confusion! I'm all over the place these days! I can order the Harlow rug online (from a Cdn. site). I am just questioning the quality and feel of it (it's a poly type material) and looking at different options to make sure I am making the right choice. Also, the last rugs I posted are available in a smaller size which apparently I need for my room. The Harlow only comes in 5x8 or 8x11 so I would need to have it cut down to size. I am willing to do that if I need to.

So, is the Harlow rug still the best option for my space?
