Are there rules about which lighting pendants to choose for dining rooms? I live in a traditionally styled house, need a new pendant light for my dining room that is mainly used as a craft room, so want lots of light. But want the pendant to look nice so that eventually the room can grow into it when kids are older. I like the spherical metal pendants- can I just do that? (like the pic attached but simpler, no crystal) Or am I committing a major design flaw? Room is about 12 by 12. Ceiling is normal height (not raised).

I also need to replace the two pendant lights that are in the entry and over the stairwell. Do those need to be the same size, or can they both be lantern pendants, but the one hanging over the stairway bigger?

See! These are probably dumb questions, but don't want to spend the money and hire an electrician to come do it and then not like it. Thanks!!
