60s ranch cottage remodel

I bought my home about 3 years ago and I'm finally ready to start making some changes to the exterior. I want to make the house look cottage like without spending huge money at the moment such as adding dormers and additions. I really want to give it some character and curb appeal and make it look not so..... plain. I know what I'm looking for but feeling overwhelmed on where to begin. I'm looking to change the shutters, hide the foundation, create a nice entry way and add some lighting at the very minimum. Country cottage is the look I'm going for and would appreciate any advice!!

It appears that there is not enough color contrast between the roof and the siding colors. Depending on what color scheme you like, I might paint the house a soft and light bluish gray or soft and light tan. A dormer entryway would be ideal to break up the roof line and add architectural interest. Adding a little porch, which is very cottage style, to one side of the door or both would be nice, but don't know if that's in your budget. If you like the hardware on your garage doors, you might want to also bring that type of hardware up to the front entryway to bring continuity.
