Yes, the first technician was from Yale, trained by Bosch. The reason I believe they did not ask for my information then is that the call was from technician to technician, not with customer service.

i have contacted Yale, and after consulting with Bosch, they have offered to exchange the range with a new one. While I do appreciate the gesture, I am nervous that since this seems to be a widespread, design problem, the new one will be the same. It would be be reassuring to know if people do get quiet ones ...

Update on my range!

i am happy to report that YALE came in today and replaced my three week old range with a brand new one. The new stove is a lot quieter than the old one. I measured the noise level of the cooling fan and now it is around 55-58db, while the old one was 70+ db. As db is a logarithmic scale, this is a big difference! Furthermore, before, the fan noise pitch oscillated making it even more annoying, to the point that I did not want to use the oven.. This one, the pitch remains low and constant. Yes, I can hear it, but is not disruptive.

I am delighted with the service I got from Yale and how they stood up for the customer. On the other hand, I am still upset with the Bosch service that insisted that the previous noise was "normal". This is even more infuriating if you take into account that when my sales rep offered the replacement and I asked him about the possibility that the new stove might have the same problem, he wrote back that Bosch told him that the new stoves are coming out of the factory with the fix kit installed!

So my advise is that if you have a loud, uneven pitch, cooling fan, push back until Bosch makes it good to you. It is mind boggling that a company like Bosch does not care about customer satisfaction. Other companies like Apple know that happy customers keep coming back to buy more products and tell their friends to buy from them.

oic57, thanks for the update, and glad to know that Yale came through. I am getting ready to purchase the same range also from Yale (in Boston right?). Is the now-less-loud fan noise there when you are using the stove top, or just when using the oven?

Also now that you've had it a while, how are you enjoying induction cooking and the Bosch in particular. Would you recommend it?

Yes, I recommend it! I love cooking with induction. It is very responsive and the cleaning is a breeze. The oven is also great. I roast meats, bake pizza and bread, etc, and they all come out great. The minor annoying things are 1) turning off one hob while the others are still cooking ... have to press until reaching 0 or move the pot elsewhere. 2) resist the temptation of cleaning spills as they happen because you might shut off the whole cooktop in the process. But these are really very minor.

The noise was the cooling fan that comes on with the oven and remains on after the oven is turned off for a while. It also might come on, if using all hobs at once. It is a fan to keep the electronics cool. The first range, sounded like a helicopter was in the middle of my kitchen, plus it was very irritating because the pitch kept changing. With the second stove, you can only hear it if I do not have the hood fan on. It is more like a very quiet breeze and very easy to ignore.

FWIW, the new Bosch range will be designated as the HIIP055u to replace or supplement the current HIIP054u.

Bosch's current rebate forms list the model number as eligible for rebates. However, there is, as yet, no other information about the model on Bosch's website.

The regional appliance chain in my area says that the new stoves are supposed to start shipping on June 5 with a suggested retail price of $3599.

The only other information I've found on it is that some dealers have been told that the stovetop is supposed to include the "flex zone" that is on the current Bosch Benchmark induction cooktops.

I heard that the HIIP055u will become the new "Benchmark" version, and the HIIP054u will become the next level down stove, implying that both will be available for purchase.

Question for you. Does the Bosch "pulse" at low heat? I want to get an induction but would prefer one that doesn't pulse, at least one that doesn't do it to the point where you see a clear difference in temp (bubbles, no bubble, bubbles, no bubbles) that I have seen described.

srob06 -- bumping this so that some Bosch owners might see it and post, but when I saw an "054u" demonstrated a couple of years ago, it did not display the pulses of OMG hot bubbling subsiding to stillness for several seconds then ramping up to OMG near boil back to stillness, etc. You may get further clarification in your other thread about pulsing.

Lisa Solt -- as yet, nobody seems to know anything more specific than reported above. Best guess at the moment is that the stovetop probably will be like the Benchmark 30" cooktop. If you aren't familiar with that cooktop, here's a link to the Benchmark induction cooktop configuration. While some induction stove makers advertise five burners on a 30" range (GE, for example), the fifth burner is only a very low power radiant electric warming zone, not an induction burner.

I don't have any real info on the new 55u "Benchmark". The person I talked to at a store called their rep and the only info was that it would be out "soon", that it would have very similar specs to the 54u except for the new cooktop would have some features that were from the separate cooktop ("flex" burners?).

I believe the 55 will have the Benchmark induction top as shown at this link, instead of the 800 series top the 54 has now:

Hvtech42 - I like the look of the flexOns in that cooktop. Do you know if you can use any pan of any size in that zone? Will a small pot work as well as a bigger one?

The new Bosch slide in models are now at the Bosch website ... They changed the interface, so that you can push the desired number instead of +/- which seems more intuitive. They also added an autochef feature to the lower model and a flex zone to the benchmark. Edit to add, that they also increased the price for the benchmark instead of lowering the price for the lower model (which is basically the previous benchmark) :(

Anyway, you will find your question about Power Moves and the Flex zone will be answered on pages 17 and 18 of the User Guide. I found a link via the actual product page. (Click here to find the page with the link to the pdf for the manual/user guide.)

Basically, the Flex Zone has an array of small inductors that can be linked or unlinked in various ways as needed or desired for everything from tiny pots to large griddles.

The "Preset Power Move" function is just one of the possible ways to use the Flex Zone.

The idea seems to be that it might be easier to move a pot than to change the power from the control panel. Say, you start the pan at the front of the zone to where it comes to a boil on power setting 9, then gets moved to finish cooking at the center of the zone where the inductors automatically switch to power level 5 when the pot is moved, and finally the pot gets moved to the back of the Zone to be kept kept hot on power setting 1.5.

My immediate reaction is that a lot of folks (myself included) might find other Flex Zone functions to be useful, but the Zone's "Power Move" feature strikes as me inconsequential gimcrackery. That is, as with stupid pet tricks, the thing is amazing but utterly pointless. For me, it would be in the same league as the LED "flame lights" and smartphone stove-monitoring on Samsung's induction slide-ins. Some people love them, however. So, read the manual and see what you think.

I looked at the Bosch site and it seemed as if the two parts of the flex burner had the same power levels, which is what confused me about the "power move". I would be interested in what you find. I am very interested in this range and will be calling a local store for pricing later.

I'm guessing that the problem with the Purcell-Murray video is probably a phone thing, then. The video may not be configured for viewing on mobile devices.

The "two equal-power" burners thing confused me, too, until I read the Instruction manual. Sounded like the kind of thing Electrolux, GE and Samsung have been doing to link to separate burners but was more like a zone that functions like corporate stablemate Thermador's "Freedom" induction. " Two burners" turns out to be one of the possible configurations that can be selected for the zone on the Bosch Benchmark.

Has anyone purchased the HIIP055U yet? I've added it to my list on induction ranges. I don't see the manual on Bosch's site though.

The HIIP055U and HII8055U manuals are on the US Bosch site, as well as installation instructions and specs. The manuals don't explain the difference between "speed boot" and "short boost" (benchmark) or tell what temperatures the "auto chef" supposedly maintains (for the 800 series)

Interesting, if not strange. A week and a half ago, there was a link on the "manuals and downloads" tab on the web page for the HIIP055U. Now, that link is gone. Maybe Bosch is revising the manual?

I have to use Chrome to see it. Internet Explorer doesn't show them. I just figured it was something at work.

It doesn't show on when you are on the phone either.

Maybe there is some weird device-specific coding. I can't see it via Chrome, but I only have Chrome on an Android tablet that I have sitting around.

Well, just drove home from the appliance store after buying the HIIP055U with the FlexZone. My dealer called and plenty are available and I may be able to have it delivered next week. I am excited but anxious! I have been researching induction for years now. Thanks to this forum (and obsessive reading of manuals), I became very knowledgeable but the choices were a bit overwhelming at times. Today I called the big Bosch showroom in NYC to speak to someone more experienced in this new range's features since none have hit the market yet. I hope that I made the right decision with the new Bosch. I will give a full update when it arrives! A big shoutout to jwvideo - you are my hero!

I'm pretty close to ordering one myself. I just need to figure out what to do with my countertops which aren't level and have a "no drip" edge at the front, since the extended part of the cooktop is supposed to rest on the countertop. I hope we can put some kind of "spacer" material to build up a flat, level spot that the cooktop will rest on, but that is mostly hidden from view.

Cooktops do rest on the countertop but not the Boch slide-in stoves. I'm assuming that you are talking about the overhanging lips on the sides of the Bosch 055u stoves. If you enlarge the images on the product pages, you will see the stoves sides have an upward bevel to the undersides of the overhangs. They cannot and are not supposed to "rest" on the countertop.

Sorry to contradict, but from page 13 of the installation manual:

1. The cooktop should rest lightly on the countertop.
2. There should not be any gap between the countertop
   and the cooktop; however, the weight of the range
   must not rest on the countertop. Look under the range
   to verify that both back legs are resting solidly on the
   floor. Also verify that the left range leg is retained by the
   anti-tip bracket.

interesting that Bosch's manual says in ¶ 1 of the quote that it should "rest lightly on the countertop" (what you apparently meant) but then says in ¶ 2 that it "must not rest on the countertop" (which is what I thought I was addressing.)

When I look at the photo image of the stove with that architectural arching deco-like lintel at the top of the front fascia of the stove, I see a bevel would seem to prevent resting on the countertops unless you mill/router a matching rounded bevel on the countertop edges. That what looks to have been done in the illustration on page 12 of Bosch's electric stove installation manual. I did find this photo of a Bosch electric slide-in which seems to show the lips lowered to the adjoining countertops behind the front fascia. But, maybe the curved bevel is only on a facade which sits in front of the countertops? Perhaps somebody who has one of the 054u models can comment on this aspect?

As for spacers to fill gaps, I'm recalling a thread from some years ago where somebody here posted photos of spacers he or she made for a GE induction slide in. The problem with the GE, IIRC, was/is that it's lowest height setting was too tall for some standard countertops. The thread (which is here) had photos of how this was done and how it looked, but I see that the links to those photos no longer seem to work. (Probably lost the links wtih the transfer of the forums to Houzz.) Basically, the filler/spacer was just a flat strip of wood milled to the height and width of the gap, painted with a black enamel, and inserted into place when the stove was positioned.

It's just poor wording. They're using the word "rest" in different ways. The cooktop should rest on the counters in the sense that it touches them. It should not rest on the counters such that they are supporting the weight of the range.

Hvtech is right. I had a Ge profile drop-in range before. That range was held in place by the "lips" over the counters, literally hanging from them. I replaced it with the bosch induction slide in range. This range slides over the counters, barely touching them. All the weight is on the feet.

Here is how the new range, BOSCH 055U looks installed with the lip in front:

My counters are 25.25 inches deep and the range fits perfectly up against the stainless back splash. The sides of the range are about .25 inches above the granite counter but that is because my counters are not even front/back and left/right which limited my ability to have it closer down on the granite. It is fine and I am happy with the outcome.

Our Bosch HIIP055u gets delivered next week. We've made up some wood spacers to fill the area between our low countertops and the range overhang.

Our HIIP0055U arrived today. The controls are easy to work. I haven't figured out how to get ShortBoost to work yet (when I hit the SpeedBoost button as described in the manual, it just toggles SpeedBoost on/off). I have no idea what the difference between SpeedBoost and ShortBoost is, so I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

from what I read, the short boost is just meant to warm up a pan quickly and then be off. seemed like a weird gimmick to me but if you figure it out - let me know! We just love love the range. My husband and I can't believe that we can cook food without burning everything in the pan - clean up is so much easier now. Honestly, almost any new range would have been a vast improvement from what we had, but the control on this induction is phenomenal and I am glad that i went with something that had more increments/degrees of control. Enjoy!

we just put into service an HIIPU054 which we purchased 4 yrs ago (don't ask...)...it has the VERY loud fan problem....Bosch says they know nothing about this...any suggestions?
